I signed up for American dental care inc in July 2015 I believe. When I called I initially was just inquiring. The lady I spoke with then convinced me to join. In December I realize that I had no use for the discount card and decided I wanted to cancel. Since December I've made numerous attempts and phone calls to cancel my account. Finally in the beginning of January I spoke with someone in billing who told me I needed to send a email explaining why I wanted to cancel my account. And that is what I did. She sent me a email asking why did I want to cancel my account and I responded because I don't find it useful and I haven't used it since I've had it. After a couple weeks without hearing from the company my card was debited again. So I immediately called them. That's when the same person that told me I needed to send a email to cancel told me I was in a contract. This was the first time I've heard anything about a contract! She then told me that I had a balance of $154 and to avoided the account going to collections I would have to pay it to cancel. I then asked to speak to a manager, no one answered so I left a message. I did not receive a call back from anyone. This was January 18th. On today January 26 my card was debited again from them for $50. When I called I asked to speak to billing. The associate told me that it was the cancellation fee. How can they make a charge to my card with informing me prior to?? I then asked to speak to a manager. She said that she could give me credit for two months for the $50 that they debited if I stayed with the company. I explained to her why would I want to stay with a company that cheat people. I also explained to her how when the associate signed me up she never mentioned a contract. And that they should be straight forward when signing people up. She told me al she could do is give me credit for two months.
