My oven quit working 5 months after I bought my house. I was provided with a home warranty from America's Preferred Home Warranty, Inc. The selling realtor provided it as part of the purchase. (Note to realtors - give the money to the buyer instead - not worth the paper it's printed on.) I called and followed the instructions explitictly.
I contacted a local service provider and scheduled the visit. I has the service tech call the warranty company with my claim number. He spoke to a customer service rep named Kathy who told him that they would only cover $250 for the repair. There reason was that they could only pay $250 based on national averages. Nowhere does it tell you this in the warranty. Nowhere does it tell you that they only cover listed parts and if yours isn't listed, it isn't covered. Bottom line - I'm paying almost as much as I would for a new oven just to get this 10 year old one fixed and I HAVE A WARRANTY!!!!
I've been invited to file a dispute but really who reads them? America's Preferred Home Warranty!!! Do they care??? No. I hope this deters just one realtor from buying therir warranty. Seriously dissapointed in this scam.
America's Preferred Home Warranty Protection Plan with a preferred upgrade was purchased for me by the seller of my home. Within 6 months of living in my home my refrigerator/freezer stopped working. I called and reported a claim. I found a repairman in our town who came to diagnose the problem. It needed to be defrosted and I was going out of town so I turned it off while I left.
After I returned, the repairman came and said it needed a new thermostat. I called to report the issue and was told the only items covered under my plan was the upgraded items (refrigerant recovery, control board, ice maker, and ice/beverage dispenser). When I asked what is covered without the ice maker the man on the phone could not answer my questions but said the thermostat was not covered. I had to pay out of pocket the $150 to fix my refrigerator.
