Ally Financial, Inc. Reviews

  • May 15, 2022

This is regarding an auto loan that began 8/13/2019. My vehicle ended up being totaled out b y my insurance company Progressive in 2021. My insurance company made a total payout in June of 2021 for $10,838.95.

Ally took this money and instead of applying it as an early payoff which was requested they applied it as a one month payment. I tried to deal with them to refund me the interest charges for an early payout and they refused. I am looking to get a refund for the interest charges and credit me for the final payment due of $94.30.

I leased a Jeep Cherokee back in Aug 2019 from Sterling Heights Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Ram located at 40111 Van d**e Ave. Sterling Heights, MI 48313. Ally was the bank that held the financing for it, which was setup at the dealership. It was a 2 year lease.

At the end of the 2 year lease, we had the option to extend it for 3 months. We took the option. Ally mailed an extension agreement which I signed and mailed back. I continued to make the payments for the extension. Some time in month 3, Ally called and stated that they never received the contract but have received the payments. I asked that they resend another extension contract and that we extend for a final 3 month period that would ultimately expire Feb 15, 2022. They said that was fine as long as payments stay current.

We continued to make the payments and went back to the dealership on February 8th to just purchase the vehicle outright. The Finance Manager Denise, after having me wait for 45 minutes, calls me in to her office to have me sign the purchase docs. As I'm sitting reviewing them as she is pushing me to sign, I realize that they are trying to charge a 6.1% interest rate!? My credit score is over 800. After letting them know that was unacceptable, I went to my bank to have them finance the purchase.

My bank was able to provide the loan at 2.99%. I went ahead signed the docs and that same day, my bank mailed out a Cashier's Check to Ally Financial (see attached). On February 14th, I woke up to leave for work and noticed that my car was gone! I called the police to realize that the car was repossessed.

At that moment, I called Ally Financial. The first representative told me that they don't see that the car has been repossessed, that payments were current, and that I needed to talk to another department. I was transferred to another representative... Representative number two literally told me the same thing and said that I needed to talk to another department... Representative number three confirmed what representatives one and two said and then said that I needed to talk to yet another department?!?

Finally at representative number four they were able to see that the car was indeed repossessed. At this point, the representative became confrontational even though I was trying to provide proof of payment and it was clearly in their system that payments were current! They said things like" surrree your bank sent the payoff."

Today is now February 15th. I had my bank send a letter and proof of payment to Ally and now Ally is saying that the payment needs to come from the dealership. I called the dealership and the dealership, specifically Gary Riashi, said that was false. The dealership does not have to be the party that sends the payment.

Now I'm stuck in the middle, without a vehicle to go to work, between Ally and the Dealership as they point the finger. Now Gary Riashi is stating that it is out of their hands and do not want to provide any support even though Ally maintains that it is them. Truly, both are at fault with Ally now holding the vehicle.

What a disaster!!! They not only have all the funds but they still have the car with no end in sight.

Ally did not follow the renew instructions for a CD that renewed. I called to correct their mistake and after a lot of wasted time they said I had to call back the next day before 5pm eastern because the department that could solve Ally's mistake had already left for the day.

I called back the following day and and after more wasted time answering all the security questions and reexplaining the mistake that Ally made in not following the renew instructions well in advance of renewal, they put me on hold for a long time and then never came back. It eventually went to the survey.

I called back a third time and after the same wasted time answering security questions and reexplaining the mistake that ALLY made they put me on hold and then came back and said I had to call Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm eastern time because the department that could solve the mistake that Ally made was only available at those times.

I called back the following Day (Monday) and after more wasted time answering security questions and reexplaining the mistake that Ally made they put me on hold. Then they came back and said to resolve their mistake they had to put in a written request and they provided me with a reference number.

I asked them several times throughout what good does it do to have someone answer the phone if noone can do anything to help. They said they were available to help customers 24 hours a day seven days a week. I asked if I was a customer and if I needed help. They did not have a satisfactory answer for the discrepency. I also have asked them several times why they could not have put in the written request the first time instead of wasting my time making me call back at very specific times. Again they have provided no satisfactory answer to this question either.

In the renewal notice I received after all of this it states at the bottom,

"Questions about your Ally Bank accounts?

You can log in at ally.com or on the Ally Mobile app to get help, or call us at 1-877-247-2559. Our

award-winning customer care is available 24/7 to help with whatever you need."

This is clearly a false claim, and is representative of this claim they make throughout all their documentation. If I had known that they would require me to call back multiple times at very specific times I would have withdrawn the money instead of renew the CD. Now if I withdrawal the money they will penalize me because the 10 day grace period expired the first day I called (Sunday January 29th).

A dealership sent in a payoff on my car on 6/7/2021 and this company still hasn't paid off my car loan. I am now showing late as of 6/15/21 because of this crap company that has been sitting on the funds for my loan. I have been calling almost daily since 6/8/21 and have asked for a supervisor to call me back and it hasn't happened.

I am sure the readers of this report will be skeptical of my view of the facts and in rendering my opinion and condemnation of Ally Bank may determine my story to be imbellished with fantasy of sword and dagger -- And I would not blame you one iota -- I wouldn't believe it either, but here is my Ally Bank Saga (Briefly): February 2019 I Googled "internet banking". Top Result: "Ally Bank, Ally Financial" or whatever the f*ck they call themselves. Having read some positive reviews of them (which I now know with out a shred of doubt to be planted by employees of this twisted so called bank) I sent them my $7989 Tax Refund. They recieved it and deposited it in the checking account which I opened . A week later I received my debit card. Another week or so my wife and I decided to go to The Golden Nugget Casino in downtown Las Vegas, about 10 minutes from my home. Without any doubt, hesitation or inhibition of any kind whatsoever, I inserted my newly activated ATM card into one of the many ATM machines planted like Scarlett Colored Roses hugging strategically thought about locations throughout the Gold Lined Casino floor. I chose the $400 offer and kissed my beautiful wife while my hand hung patiently under the cash deliverly slot. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CARD PROVIDER were the words which activated this now 10 month GODDAMN Ally Bank, Ally Financial, Ally Go F*ck Your Mother In the A*s Bank. I have done everything a sound and sane, college educated, 54 Year old man has been asked to do by the Scumbags at Ally Loss Prevention and Fraud Department has asked me to do. And yet they still will not release Any of my funds because I believe one of their employees stole it and they will not admit it! They continue to say they cannot prove I am who I say I am. This is after sending My Drivers LIcense, SS Card, Utility Bills etc. They are theives and I will never quit trying to get my money.

One of two possible problems. #1. Bank undercharged for over one year. #2. Scam letter from Ally with trying to collect late fees for that year.

#1. Auto payment set up for X amount of dollars by Ally auto financing. Ally then claimed to have taken $4.94 less than the contracted amount, and wanted the recepient to pay late charges and penalties.

#2. Unauthentic looking letter in mail states the late fees. Called company to discuss, they take no ownership in thier mstakes. Amount of late fees charged in unauthentice looking vs. Ally's late fee charge was inconsistent with letter rec'd.

Around Oct 24th tow truck guy knock on my door saying he is here to repo my car. I ask what is going on, He said I was on his list.

I called Ally to find out what is going on why are they taking my car after I put in an agreement for a re-write.

I was told I owe for Aug and I am now 90 days pass due. First of all my payments are due on the 24th so it's not 90 days pass due. 2nd of all I know I paid Aug I even made 2 payments in Aug. They did't want to hear that even though I gave them confirmation of my 2 payments. They ask me where was the car I told them it is being taken the person I was speaking to told me they were sorry they can't give me anymore info cause they are taking the car I had to call another number, I call that number and they had no info for me to call back in an hour .I been calling back every hour on the hour after 6 hours they told me I had to pay 1774 + 26.01 late fee + 400 repo fee to get car. I ask where did they get that total I was just told I only owe 763. I was told well now you owe 2200.14 and there is nothing they can do.

I kept calling Ally and finally I got someone to speak to me who I can understand. Holly went over my payment histroy and came to realize my Aug payment was paid, so I ask about getting my car back and ask why I had to pay so much to get it back, she then came up with oh well you have to pay back months ( here we go ) every time she said I had to pay I counter her to prove I didn't. I even call on Sept 26 spoke to refinance dept they was giving me a refinance went over my account said I owe 319 of unpaid fees that they couldn't tell me what for , but ok I paid those fees and were told my account was all up to date. So I ask why did they take my car charge me all those fees and can't or wont give my car back knowing I don't owe. This is robbery and they are getting away with it. PEOPLE DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE THE WORST!!!

The company has sent me different notices stating that I owe more money on my auto loan. However, I made the last payment In May 2017. The company took over my loan and begin to misplace my payments stating that they never received them. When the checks cleared in my bank account. They called and said I owed them $500, a month later $600 and after that $998.18. Ally auto is a complete ripoff.

I traded my truck in for another one. The dealership were to pay ally off for the previous truck. Due to arrangement the proces took a little long than normal. I contacted ally when i recieved a past due letter to let them know the situation. I told them the dealer was responsible for payment and my ties to trucm have been signed over. And i simply couldnt make a payment knowing they would be paid off any day now. They ended up sending it off and ruined my credit 84 points i lost the abilty to get a house loan approved and cant even get a simple personal loan. They were paid the very next day. I have asked them to remove it since they recieved their money the very next day but they wont budge. So now im 24 with a wife and child on the way with no chance of house approval. For the people out there who say i probaly couldnt afford it, being so young. Not to be arrogant but i have heard that already i make 39/hr and the wife is a nurse so thank the lord has blessed us, but Ally has ruined a chance for me to provide a home to my family. I am. Not bashing this company they gave me a chance when no one else would but i havent done anything to be treated like this. If you get a chance for their business take it just be careful.

This company offers terrible service and extreemly long wait times on the phone when trying to correct a problem. They also share your information with many other businesses which means many companies you do not want to deal with have your information. The people who answer the phone are bad tempered and unfriendly. They are sullen, sulky, moody, sour and a pain to deal with. They talk through you when you are trying to explain you problem. You are better off going to a credit union or another place that does not share your information and even if you have to pay a higher rate, you are better off and have peace of mind.

I purchased a 2014 Nissan Versa from Bill Cole's in Ashland, KY where they financed it through Ally Financial. I had the car for three weeks and had gap insurance through my insurance company American. My car was totalled three weeks later. My insurance paid the purchase price but my gap would not pay the other balance. My extended warranty was canceled by Bill Cole and it paid to Ally. I went back to Bill Cole to purchase another vehicle and told them I had a balance and Ally told them they would not finance the replacement until the first loan on the Versa was paid. So the finance department did there thing and I got my loan through Ally for the replacement car. About six to eight months later Ally comes back saying Bill Cole took there funds back and I know owe them $2700 which has been turned over to a collection agency.
