In roughly January of 2016 I had requested to have all overdraft protections removed from my account because of the outragious fees I was charged and it was. So, if I tried to use my card and the account balance wouldn't cover my requested charge, the card would be denied and no fees would be incurred. As of December of this 2017 the overdraft protection was put back on my account and I didn't authorize it. When I next went to balance my statement on March 1st I realized I had $900+ in overdraft fees.
I live on a disability check of roughly $1200/month. When I called to complain, the lady I spoke with put me on hold and after 15 minutes I called back. When I asked about why they started it up again, I was told we mailed you a letter stating I had to opt out or I would be put back on it.
I was livid. I told them I had asked more than a year ago to have it removed and not to put it back on the account. When confronted about this charge they told me it was ligit, but, they would return $60 of the fees, but, the $840 would remain. What?! She told me I had to come in and sign a letter opting out back in 2016. Note: when I asked to have it removed again, I was told I didn't need to go in and sign anything. What?!
When I asked what kind of charges would have occured if the overdraft protection was not put back on my account, I was told no fees would have occured. I was charged $30 for each use of my debit card regardless of the charge amount. In one transaction I purchased a candy bar by card (didn't have enough cash on hand). That candy bar cost $31+
I know I am not the only person out there that this has happened to. Please help me out here y'all. This has to be a scam.
