Allianz Travel, which has offered insurance on both Priceline and Expedia has inconsistently applied claims. October I got laid off from a job after having made two reservations with Priceline. One for a $570 hotel, which they promptly refuned. The next for a $2209.60 airfare. The job I got laid off from was supposed to be a permanent job. But imagine my surprise when the second claim I put was denied. Their illogical reason was the fact I wasn't employed three straight years when I made the reservation. This fact was never made blatantly obvious when making the reservation as a possible reason for not allowing for the claim to process. They need to make their restrictions known up front to the travel agents that use them. They were not impressed that I had my own personal business during times when I wasn't employed or that I have had on and off jobs throughout my 28 years of professional experience, with employment every year since 2018.
Nonstop employment in the IT industry is almost impossible. Now I'd just like to get the $177.88 back on the insurance as they won't allow me to use it. That's just plain fraud to offer insurance and not allow its use at all, and for reasons not stated up front. Allianz should not be listed as a 4 start insurance agent. At best it is 0.
The airline site allows you to purchase travel insurance, which I did for $201.10. Claim on site 100% trip cancellation, 200% trip interruption, $50,000 medical emergency, emergency transportation $50,000, with 24 hour assistance. www. etravel.com/priceline protection.
Pricline would not support change of name on my airline ticket to match my passport. After 2 hours of calling and getting someone to answer, called 3 different operators was lied to call Italy, takes 8 days to change name, given a number that was not working. I called Allianz to cancel both my ticket and my husbands. Delta would not let me board and he wasn't go alone.
After sending in my paperwork requested with proven protection cost, Allianz simply said by email, "Thank you for choosing Allianz Global Assistance. Based on the information provided, we regret to inform you that we cannot issue a payment for your claim because:
ยท Your insurance program provided Trip Cancellation benefits for very specific reasons. Unfortunately, cancellation due to stolen tickets is not included among those reasons.
Please refer to your plan documents to review your specific plan details."
Absolutely no reference to REASON why. They kept $2,714.80 plus upgraded seats $78.00.
This is a company Priceline.com uses or recommends on their website. I use Priceline all the time. It is a good service. The problem came into play when I knew there would be a possibility of cancellation so I used the Allianz travel insurance recommended on the Priceline website when I booked and paid for a room over a month in advance. Well, I also got cancellation insurance for a rental car booked through Costco and the airline tickets I booked through Allegiant Air. You see my father is 87 years old and he had fallen months back, had surgery for a broken hip. He has been under doctor's care and had a personal assistant come in to help him rehab. Evidently, he has not come along as far as the doctor had wanted him to and we were told he could not be left alone. The trip was not until Labor day weekend 2017. The doctor said he cannot and will not be able to function by himself by then. So we cancelled the flight, cancelled the car rental, no problem. We got in touch with Allianz and they said if dad ain't near death, they would not cover!!!! We cancelled this trip or tried to weeks before it was to happen. Allianz is not a good company. Buyer beware. I told Priceline about them because I don't feel they should be doing business with a company that conducts shady business. You will not get your money back if you go with Allianz. They are deceptive and dishonest. Their standard operating proceedure is to find out a way not to pay. Shame on them. Do not use this company. You will be sorry. Get travel insurance but not with them.
