Allen Azarkian from Prime Assets (aka Triumph Realty) put an apartment for rent on craigslist for $1800 a month in Manhatttan. I contacted him and we agreed on a 6 month lease. He asked me to pay him in cash and I gave him $3600 (first month + security). He gave me the keys and he said I can move-in as soon as today.
I went back to Long Island to grab my stuff and when I came back to the apt the key wasn't working and Mr Azarkian stopped answering to the phone. I had to make a police report but since I paid him in cash I basically have no case. Lesson learned.
I hope someone will see this so they avoid getting scammed by this individual in the future.

I found an apt on the internet listed by Triumph Realty.
The realtor (Allen Azarkian) seemed like a nice guy and was 'trying to help me out'. He told me the apt belongs to his friend who's travelling to Israel for the next 6 months and that I could move in without paying a security deposit.
That was a lie. Basically this guy was the TOR (tenant of record) of an apt he was subleasing. He collected the money from me ($1200) but never paid the original landlord. The original landlord had me evicted even though I was paying my rent in full every month.
Plz watch out for this fraud. It's more common than you think
