I hired Mr. Guillen (Handyman) to repair a cracked shower base in the master bathroom, which was discovered during a house appraisal.
Mr. Guillen removed all the shower walls to gain access to the shower base. He then decided himself to modify the shower base from standard and ordered a specially built shower base. When he found out this new base was going to take over a year to receive because the new laws in California regarding diesel trucks, he demanded I pay him his full price for his work, an additiaonl $3425.
When I found Mr Guillen was an unlicensed contractor, and collecting money before the project was complete (except for actual expenses) was totally unethical, I asked for my money back. He agreed to a refund and proposed to pay me back in three equal payments of $1141.63. Each payment would become due the 5th of each month. On April 5th, 2022, I received two money orders totalling $1,142.
The following month, I received a telephone call from Mr. Guillen, asking to delay this payment until the third week of May. I acknowledge this delay, but when the third week arrived, Mr. Guillen ignored any contact I attempted and to this day has not make any further attempt to contact me or make good his obligation.
