Alan's Renovation Reviews

  • Jul 17, 2018

Alan's Renovations was referred to us by an employee at Floor & Decor located in Miami Gardens, Florida. We contacted Alan and spoke to him about remodeling our Kitchen and possible tile install through the first floor of our home. My wife met with the owner of Alan's Renovations Mr. Alan O. Mcmillon who presented himself as owner and operator of Alan's Renovation. Mr. Mcmillon stated he does a lot of work in Orlando, Florida and spend lot's of time in Miami Dade doing work or repairing bad jobs done by others and stated he been in business quite sometime. My wife asked Mr.Mcmillon if he was licensed and insured and without hesitation he responded he was, after further talking to him he sounded like he knew what he was doing and provided us assurance that all would be completed in 7 days and that he would be in and out quickly with a beautiful kitchen in place. Mr. Mcmillon stated he would bring his crew and they would do demolition in one day. We had previously bought a Quartz Counter Top Slab and Mr. Mcmillon stated he would have the Slab sent to his fabricator. We found it odd that Mr. Mcmillon business couldn't be found on the internet or that he had any business cards showing the business name or his name. That should have been a red flag and I should had known better that this individaul was not licensed. My wife and her excitment to proceed and get her kitchen remodeled ignored the red flags.

Mr. Mcmillon started 07/06/18 and arrived with his crew. Once again another red flag that his team came in a U-Haul van and Mr. Mcmillon in a Light Tan Lincoln. Mr. Mcmillon had been given $2,500 cash which should have been another red flag to start the project. Mr. Mcmillon had stated he needed to raise the ceiling becuase the new cabinets wouldn't fit, plus it would look better. While demolotion of the cabinets took place my wife had asked for License and Insurance only to never get a copy or conversation changed. Once again that should have been a red flag. After several days of substandard work on the ceiling we should have relalized these guys knew nothing of what they were doing. Unsanded ceiling, terrible patch work, over mudded and uneven ceiling was the the first signs we were in trouble. There were days that Mr. Mcmillon wouldn't show up or return calls, however he would send is assistant to continue working on the ceiling which is now going on 5-6 days, one of their employees proceeded to paint with the ceiling not completed and dust all over the house and walls. The assistant claimned he was a painter and did the most terrible paint job on my wall. When I got home later that evening I found, paint stains on my laminate flooring, paint stains on the A/C vents, and light switches, telling me he painted arounfd without removing. It was clear that once again these guys knew nothing about remodeling.

Going into week two we at this point have only partial cabinets installed, walls partially painted, dust and stains everywhere, ceiling still looking terrible and unsanded, lights hanging from ceiling and not properly installed. My kitchen looks like bomb landed in there. After many calls and days missed and unaswered calls we find out Mr. Mcmillon claims he was hospitalized. After 3-4 days without any kind of progress I decide to seach the internet for this business and who Alan O Mcmillon is. Under Miami Dade County there was no business under that name, and the only things that come up are his mug shots from court history and arrest in Orange County, Florida and Broward County. That evening we called him and he proceeded to tell my wife he couldn't work under these stressful conditions. I told my wife to advise him that our agreement was terminated effective immediately for several reason, scope of work not completed as promised within 7 days. Mr. Mcmillon never produced a license that he was authorized to work in Miami Dade County, Mr. MCmillon never produced Insurance General Liablity or Workers Comp, Mr. Mcmillon had a team that knew nothing about renovations, Mr. Mcmillon never produced a business card, stationary with his business name or license, he has no website, no e-mails, he simply prays on innocent people who he charms them with saying all the right answers and claims that he knows the business. Avoid at all cost doing business with this scam artist.
