Alamo Rent a Car Reviews

  • Dec 18, 2021

I have never been so humiliated and disrespected by a company in my life. I've already visited 26 countries. I rented every possible kind of car. but I've never been so mistreated. I had with me a temporary driver's license issued by the State of Illinois, especially for visitors. just to never have problems with an international driver's license.

The State of Massachusetts admits any driver's license from any state or even countries, that’s right, People from any country with a valid license in their countries can drive in MA up to 6 months, including temporary licenses issued by any state. The truculent, disrespectful attendant from the Boston unit canceled my reservation when it was time to pick up the car, simply because he was not prepared to do a simple search, and find information that is public and simple to find.

My family was unable to go to the hotel, but luckily at the window next door there was a more serious company. We pay more but we rent with those who care about customers. Run from this evil company, and avoid being embarrassed and humiliated as I was. WORST SERVICE EVER!

I rented a car at Alamo at Tampa airport the company had big gray pillars behind every exit, the attendant waved me into an exit and then changed their minds and wanted me to back up and go to another exit that’s when I scraped the rear side, not much damage at all.

They wanted me to pay $500 to take the car. Now they’ve sent a balance of $965.17. When I called they wanted the money in full. My husband and I are on a fixed income and wanted to make payments they refused.

I reserved an economy automatic car for my travel to St. Martin (SXM) on November 6, 2018. Confirmation #1501944636. Alamo told me that the special was $85.33 per week; 2 weeks $170.66, total including all additional charges would be $217.13. Upon arriving to St. Martin, I told the reservationist that I do not want rental insurance. She agreed. I handed her a $100.00 cash plus my card for credit. She charged my card over $700 and told me it was a mistake and that I would be reimbursed when I returned the card. Being in a foreign country, I was afraid to cancel the transaction, because I was not sure of the results & she could not verify if the funds would be release immediately back into my account.

On November 20, 2018, I returned the car. It was pouring rain & I was hurried onto there Van that was carrying passages to the airport. I reminded her of our agreement on 11/6/2018, she agreed, handed me a couple of papers to sign, said she was going to credit my account. I trusted her, because this was not my first time traveling to St. Martin and I find the people very trust worthy.

The clerk also told me, that I will be contacted if any additional charges/credits were applied to my account. I haven’t received any notices or calls from Alamo. When I check my account, I did not see the charges. I give it sometime because it was foreign. On December 4, 2018, I noticed that my account was in the negative. I called my bank and was told that a charge in the amount of $1054.93 was charged to my account by Alamo/Auto Group which cause my account to go into a negative status. I was advised to file a dispute.

Here is a breakdown of charges that I received on November 6, 2018 from Alamo, St. Martin:

Two (2) weeks rental @ $85.33 per week; USD $170.66

Unlimited Mileage

Airport fee $15.00 USD

Goverment tax 5.0% - $9.28 USD

State surcharge 13.0% - $22.19 USD

Grand total $317.13

Why did Alamo charged my card $1054,93, plus accepted the $100 cash that I had apply to my charges. I asked the clerk to apply the $100 cash to my charges in order that my charges be reduced when I returned the car on November 20, 2018. I contacted Alamo and they did not respond.

Your help in solving this matter is greatly appreciated.

After an 8 hour flight and having beend drenched from head to foot on our way to ALAMO Sanford Airport office due to a horrendous thunderstorm we were subject to what can only be described as a good old fashioned con-trick. We were none to subtely informed that the hire car which was pre-paid as part of our package holiday would be too small for our party. With 4 adults and associated luggage to consider we agreed to an upgrade at the expressly quoted 14 days at $25 ($350). No mention of any other charges and having earlier speciffically stated we didn't require Colliaion Damage Waiver (CDW) cover.

Drenched and weary we signed in the circled areas (too numerous to mention) and went on our merry way. The day after arriving I decided to go online and check my credit card statement to discover ALAMO had charged me $860 dollars including CDW which I had previously declined. The moral of this story is 1. never use ALAMO where you have the choice and 2. if you do need to use them never agree to an upgarde without having the breakdown of costs in front of you at signature stage. ALAMO are a trully shameful and duplicitous company. BEWARE.

My wife reserved our rental at Alamo in Bozeman MT airport so I hadn't read the reviews about this place before I picked up the car but stumbled onto them before returning it trying to find out some info on the return process. So I was well aware of the scams they are running there. I was well prepared, I took photos of the entire car with my phone before having to make the half mile hike back to the terminal to return the keys. I completely expected and was ready for what happened next.

A not so nice man named Bob from PurCo called to inform me of a claim on our car from a rock chip. I let him finish his speech and then informed him that not only was there no rock chip when we returned it I had PROOF that there was no rock chip or any other damage. I explained to the not so nice man that I was aware of there scam prior to returning it thanks to so many other dissatisfied customers filing complaints and writing bad reviews and I had a meticulous file of photos that would prove him wrong.

Two weeks later despite the fact that there was no damage to the vehicle I get a letter in the mail stating there was, a bill for it, and a plea to call him so we can "work it out". I plan on "working it out" and I have already forwarded my pics to Amex in case they try to charge our card any additional funds so they can be prosecuted for fraud. I am taking time from by busy day "working it out" by writing as many reviews as possible so others hopefully will avoid this place at least until new management is in place to get rid of this corrupt group of individuals at this location otherwise one would have to assume that all of Alamo rental operates under this corrupt culture.

Rented a car from Alamo at the Kansas City MO airport, picked the vehicle out from vehicles kept in an open air lot. Night before I returned it, I stayed 2 miles away from the airport it hailed. I did not notice any damage to the car. Returned the car to the airport the next morning. Alamo Representative walked around my car and said I was good to go.

Weeks later I get a notice that they are asking me to pay $2,655.00 for hail damage. Sent me pictures that had many hand-made green circles indicating what they said was damage, but no indentions or missing paint could be seen within the circles. I will never be renting from Alamo again. I will lose my 15% "no claims" advantage if I turn this into my insurance. I would like to know what will happen if I just do not pay them?

*SAFETY WARNING* I was rented a car from Fort Lauderdale airport. Half way to my location every light in the car came on and awful noises. Then the brakes went out. I called Alamo and was told to drive to the Boca Raton location. When I arrived I was told there were no cars and I should drive this car with bad brakes back to Fort Lauderdale. Employee Eugene Groover slammed the door on my face and told me to leave. Branch Mnaager Jeff Stein watched as the both laughed and made my 10 yr old cry. Zero resolution so far. I had to leave the car in Boca Raton and take an Uber to my location. The employees left us stranded in a rain storm and continued to mock us. My credit card has been charged and there has been no refunded issued. I have contacted every social media outlet, only to get GENERIC responses in return.

Sunday, July 3rd, we've rented a Van at the Alamo Shop in the Miami Airport, and after 10 mins driving in a very busy highway the car had an Engine Failure, and stopped out of nowhere. We had 3 children under 10 yo with us and we don't know Miami, so you can imagine our distress. We made it back to the Airport safetly, Change the Van, and due to the stress and all children and bags, I left my iPhone in the old Van. After 20 minutes, when I realised it, I came back to the office just to find out that the Van was already gone and nobody knew anything about my phone. Somebody took it.

First of all, I would like to express my deepest disappoitment with the service provided, as not only the car had a failure, but also the GPS (yes, we returned there for a third time) and we arrived at our destination at 04 am, with the children.

Finally, I would like to know where is my Rose iPhone 6, with a light pink silicone case. What will Alamo do about it? How come a mobile disappear and nobody knows nothing about it? Somebody took it and it was in the Shop because I came back minutes later and it was gone.

My family have a history of successful experiences with Alamo, both here in the US and in Europe, but we probably won't rent again after this.... Not only we used the service but we have recommended it many time for family and friends, but we won't anymore, and not only because of a missing item, but due to the lack of responsibility of the Company for this incident.

I recently rented a vehicle from Alamo Rental Car in the Orlando International Airport. Upon returning my vehicle to the garage, I mistakenly left a $200 pair of Oakley sunglasses in the vehicle. After realizing this, I went back through Security and walked all the way back to the parking garage and was told that the vehicle was already rented and no glasses were found.

After digging further, I found out that their process is to clean all vehicles out and send any items left behind to an off-site Lost and Found Department along with the vehicle ID # so that the item can be returned to the owner. Obviously, this procedure was not followed or else my glasses would have been returned. Conveniently, they state that they are not responsible for items left in the vehicles. If that is the case, why have a procedure in place to return them? Why not just post the policy clearly so that everyone can see "We Reserve the Right to Keep Your Property if You Leave it in the Vehicle". I gave them ample opportunity to do the right thing and compensate me for my lost sunglasses. I even asked for assistance from American Express. Alamo chose to do nothing to help. They maintained that the glasses were not found and therefore, could not have been left in the vehicle. How convenient. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Alamo Rental Car has clearly placed profits ahead of the customer and is a dishonest, unethical, and irresponsible company with which to do business. I will never again use Alamo, Thrifty, or Enterprise as they are all related companies. I have posted reviews and complaints on several websites in hopes that my experience will not happen to anyone else. I strongly discourage anyone from using Alamo Rental Car or any of their subsidiaries.

Best of luck.

I rented a car at Reagan International Airport and was not given an opportunity to inspect the vehicle before we left with it (in fact, was not even told I needed to do this). In fact, when we were escorted to our rental, it was already started up and in the drive ready to be driven off and the attendant said there's your car and disappeared. There was a small dent on the back left over the taillight that I noticed when we arrived at our destination two hours later. I was attending a wedding so the car stayed parked in valet the entire time we were in town, and the only reason we even rented a car was that it was cheaper than a taxi ride for 75 miles. When I returned the car, this dent was immediately pointed out and when I told them it was on the car when I picked it up, a manager came over and he and I got into a very spirited discussion about whether or not I was liable for the dent. He told me it was my responsibility to inspect the car and fill out an inventory sheet before leaving with the car. I told him I was never told I needed to do an inspection and I was never given an inspection sheet. He told me it didn't matter, that it was still on me and I couldn't prove that I didn't do it. I took pictures of the damages and since we had a flight to catch, I signed the "Incident Report" he insisted on. I later got a bill in the mail along with an itemized statement of damages which were completely blown out of proportion from the small dent above the tail light. They are now claiming I damaged the bumper and the rear quarterpanel and the pictures they sent as "evidence" are dated 3 days after I turned the car in. The Incident Report that I signed (not that it did me any good) clearly states that the only damage to the car is the dent above the tail light. My insurance company got involved and when they contacted Alamo to get copies of everything I signed and/or was given when I rented the car, was advised that Alamo does not even HAVE an Inventory/Inspection sheet! So they apparently make it a practice to send you on your way without an opportunity to look at the car first, and they aren't telling their customers to do so and they certainly are not giving customers an inspection sheet to complete. The bottom line, my insurance company and I are having to pay for this fictional damage, not because I caused it, but because we can't prove that I didn't and it's not a large enough claim to go to court over. Guess who I won't ever use again???
