In 2015 I had AJ Perry install a new HVAC unit. Every single year since that point there has been issues with the unit. The heat didn’t work the air-conditioning didn’t work needed a new filter, etc. Every time I’ve had to call the services and they’ve come out and inspect it and fixed whatever deed to be fixed.
I contacted quality assurance because I was completely unhappy with the service and equipment. They have yet to justify the need to replace the unit. I have a 90-year-old living in my home and I can’t she cannot be subjected to this extreme temperatures.
About 3 years ago, AJPerri bought out the company that installed & maintained our homes 20kw back up generator system with us paying them an annual fee of 315.00 to maintain it, change the oil, air & oil filters, tune up, etc. In the past 3 years, each time our power has gone out, our back up generator has failed to operate and each time, it turned out that the servicing had been handled wrong. Each time, they apologized and promised to take steps to immediatey correct the problems caused by their service tech. Each time, they ended up sending out a 2nd service tech to correct the problems caused by their first tech. And then about 3 weeks ago, our power went out again and again our generator failed to operate. Turns out that when the service tech last serviced the generator in 2016, he failed to properly install the spark plugs in the engine causing one of the spark plugs to come free from the engine. Turns out that in addition to failing to properly service the generator in 2016 and despite us having renewed the service contract, they "forgot" to contact us to schedule this years servicing of the generator. When the generator failed to start, AJPerri sent out its tech, who attempted to suggest that he did nothing wrong and that the problem was that the mother board was "old", causing the generator to not start. He then tried to get us to pay 900.00 for a new mother board. Yet, he could not explian what happened to the intake hose connection ( missing) and why the casing was melted. In the end, it then sent a senior tech out, who acknowledged that the mother board was not old and that it was no longer working bacause the unit had overheated because of the service related problems and then proceeded to detail a whole list of otehr problems with the machine as a result of the otehr techs mishanlding of it, including..... this time he overtightened the spark plugs and stripped the threads making it impossible for the 2nd tech to remove them. In the end, we were told that our generator, which is supposed to have a 25 - 30 year life span was rendered inaoperable after 6 years because of the incompentent servicing by AJPerri..... and that is only the beginning of the story as to their efforts to rip us off.
Each time we would call, we would be passed on to another quality assurnace rep or manager with promises taht they will call us back with a solution. Never occurred. In the end, they acknowledged that the machine was no longer capable of being fixed and ultimately acknowledged that the mother board and all of the related parts damaged because the machine overheated and ran in a damaged state. Yet, despite this information, they continually tried to get us to "share" in the cost of the repair work, telling us that they were giving us the parts at "their cost". Yet, their cost for the mother board alone changed 3 times, based on who you spoke with, starting at 900.00, then 700,00 and the ultiamtely 400.00. And here is where the story changes.... After telling us that our generator is no longer operable, they suggested that we have them install a new "identical" generator, which they will give us "at their cost". They told us that their cost for a replacement ( identical unit) was 16,000.00 but they would sell it to us for 8,000.00. Yet, Home Depot & Lowes sells the exact same system for 4250.00 - 4500.00 ( delivered). With delviery and installation ( 3 otehr contracts provided verification), the cost would be 7500.00 or 500.00 less than what they told us was their cost for the unit.
On every level, they lied to us, attempted to deceive us and destroyed our generator system, which should have lasted 25 - 30 years before needing replacement.
When I spoke with the general manager, he asked if he took 1,000.00 off the price of what they paid for the machine, if that would make us happy and resolve the issue. Im curious as to how many people would think that his "offer" was fair after what occurred. We spent 12,000.00 for a system designed to last 25 - 30 years and paid for an annual service contract to ensure that it would last and 6 years later, we are told that the machine is inoperable becasue of the incompentence of the service tech and instead of immedaitely offerring to resolve the matter, 3 weeks later, the general manager is simply trying to still see how cheaply he can get them out of this setting. The interesting part to this whole setting is that he never reached out to us until we used the magic words - our plan to sue them for their violation of the NJ Consumer Fraud Laws - which mandates treble damages and counsel fees for their efforts to defraud us.
Terrible, dishonest and incompetent. Bad combination.
I called the company as the heating unit in my attic was not working properly. The technicians came down they charged $153 + Tax to just show and diagnose the problem.
They told me the flame sensor needs to be replaced $343 + Tax. The actual part is availalbe through amazon for $9.50 next day delivery.
How can a company rip off its customers to this extent???? I can understand you charge $50 for installation but anything more than that is tootally a rip off. In future I will never be doing business with any big company as they find unimaginable means off ripping you off.
I have an older furnace and newer A/C unit that I maintain faithfully. My HVAC man is no longer servicing my area so I called AJ Perri. On 11/24/16, A service man Al Mayweather came over. He brought a little brush like for painting trim and started dusting off the furnace. I had already vacuumed and cleaned. He went over and proceeded to turn on the A/C unit. I told him that was not the one and he looked at me and said he knew what he was doing. He turned it on and nothing happened. I said now will you turn on the thermostat for the heat and I walked over and turned on the correct thermostat and the furnace kicked right in.
I walked in to watch what he was doing and he had put a hole in the vent and told me my CO2 level was 800 and that he would have to turn off the furnace, shut of the gas line and deem the house uninhabitable plus he said it was totally rusted out and was about to collapse. I couldn’t imagine that everything went bad since May when I had it serviced. I said maybe there is dust blocking since it’s the first time on and could we wait a little while and check out the other things. Nope he insisted. I asked him to show me and he had a camera - when I went to take a picture he turned it off. I did see the number 93 at the top and asked him if that was the Co2 level. He said yes, but it was probably a fluke and just a fluctuation. I also asked him why my Co2 detectors weren't going off. He proceeded to tell me that they must be faulty, or bad battery which was fine and it would be on my head if the tenants died from Co2 poisoning.
I asked him about the water heater and he said that would be another service call.
I told him to shut down the furnace and check the A/C. He then insisted the A/C must be in my attic – I told him it was not but he insisted on going up to the attic anyway. Of course it was not there – it was in the top of the garage. We walked out there and he stood staring at it and said, it looks ok to me. I told him that my man always went up there with a ladder and something like a shop vac and did something but he went up there. He said well maybe he checked a filter so I said well then check it please. He said he didn’t see a filter. He then asked me if I had a ladder. I did not so he said I don’t see a filter so it should be fine not to worry. I was getting more aggravated by the minute.
We walked out to his truck and I told him I was worried about the furnace but since it was still warm out I would not do anything at this time and I was upset that he was considering shutting off the gas to the house. He gave me a huge sales pitch and said he was not going to shut of the gas but would write it up as a hazard and when did I want an appointment for a new, efficient, safe furnace at a wonderful price. I told him I would call to set up an appt. and away he went.
I called customer service – I number of times and finally got someone who said they would send a supervisor over to check the situation. After 2 days of torture and worry on 10/27, a supervisor Brian Fairchild came over. He said identified himself as maintenance technician.
I tried to stay cool and see what he had to say. I had the heat cranked way up and he went in and looked around at it and said. This is not the newest furnace but I can see it has been well maintained. He took out the burners, cleaned them, started it up and said this furnace is fine.
I asked him what he was told when he came over to my house and he said all they told him was it was a redo. I told him the story about the last guy and he said well he was probably just a maintenance guy. I said well that is what I was looking for maintenance on my furnace and A/C. He didn’t say anything more and we went out to check the A/C.
We got out to the garage, he looked up and asked me if I had a ladder. I almost blew a gasket. I said you service units in attics and garages all the time, they didn’t tell you that you needed a ladder. He replied there were no instructions given. I asked him what the hell he had in that HUGE shiny truck that wouldn’t allow him a 12’ ladder. He went on to tell me the procedure for requesting a ladder.
I told him that I would call a few friends, or go to Home Depot and get a ladder and put it in my Mercury Mariner SUV and I insisted he wait. I got the ladder and was back in 20 minutes. He went up the ladder took a look and got his shop vac out to blow out the line so it wouldn’t freeze. I mentioned that Mr. Mayweather had said something about a filter. He said there would not be a filter up there.
I thanked him profusely for doing the right thing. I am going to report this to anyone and everyone I can think of.
These people are con artists. If you catch on, they send someone to smooth it over. You’re not getting over on this woman.
AJ Perri came for preventive instepction for the beginning of the summer. They advised that our coils needed cleaning which they would do to the tune of $800.00. We declined for the time being. Yesterday, our AC stopped working after we smelled some burning. We shut off the unit and called AJ perri for service since they came out two weeks prior to check the unit for the start of summer. The technician came, just looked inside the unit...did nothing else and told my husband that our blower motor was burned out. He would go back to the shop, and see if they had the part and he would call with a price and schedule the work. No one called back and by the time 6:30 Pm rolled around, my husband called AJ Perri to see what was going on and did they have the part. He was told that the motor was ordered and the cost will be $900.00....my husband quetioned the price with the person on the phone and was told that this was a discount price because we just had them check the unit and the actual cost would be $1,100.00 without the disocunt.
After he hung up we called a friend who recommended a HVAC person (Dave) who iis running his own small business. He advised that he would charge approximately $300.00 for a new motor including installation. My husband gave him the numbers from our Unit and he went to pick up the motor before he even came here in the morning. When he looked at our unit, he told us that he did not think it was our motor. He took readings of the motor and the capacitor, which the AJ perry technician did not do.
To make a long story short, after Dave thoroughly checked the unit, the only thing our unit needed was the capacitor, a $13.00 part which he installed for a total on $120.00 .....I m so glad we were alert enough not to be conned by this company.
Only now did we read all the bad reviews which all had the same ending: Ripped off for a lot of money for little bit of work.
I asked you, how do they get away with it??
At no time wil we ever use AJ Perri again and I work in a huge firm and I will make it known how crooked this company is.
One should read reviews from former employees which says it all.
