Received an e-mail from AHUVA.COM for yarmulkes and decided to call the phone number listed. I spoke with JOSH (baby crying the background) who was obviously home and it was night time. This was an internet Yarmulke and Religious Article company of the Jewish faith.
My daughter is being Bat Mitzvah'd so I needed yarmulkes. I made the sad mistake of phoning him and describing what I wanted. He jotted it down and sent me a confirming e-mail completely DIFFERENT than what I ordered in both price and content. UNREAL!! I called again - he apologized and then said he would look into it. I didn't want to deal with this anymore so within a few minutes, I phoned him again and told him to simply cancel the order.
Josh was not happy to hear that and curtly told me to e-mail him a response and he'd get back to me. I e-mailed him and heard back later that he had a 15% cancellation fee on his website. I informed him that I didn't go on his website nor did I ever hear of this from any other vendor of this type. Also, he took the order wrong to begin with, so now he's charging me for his mistakes?
My advice: DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM AHUVA.COM I called my credit card company and they told me that nothing apparently was done in the short period of time and no vendor can simply charge for their trouble. In addition, he lied. The policy (after finding out from him what the website was called) states a restocking fee. WHAT WAS HE RESTOCKING? I called him at night and within a half hour it was all cancelled. In fact, within a few minutes I phoned him to cancel it - he insisted I do so via e-mail!
Anyway, I'm sure I'm not alone - I read plenty about this merchant. BUYER BEWARE!! BUYER AVOID AHUVA.COM!!!
I ordered a tallis. It took 2+ months to arrive and when it got here it didn't look anything like the picture on the website. It was polyester and made in China instead of being silk as advertised. When I emailed to complain, the owner, Yehoshua Pinto, tried to tell me I was mistaken. When I said I wanted to return the tallis he said I would need to pay a restocking fee that amounted to just under half of what the tallis cost me in the first place! Several weeks later I started getting all these emails imploring me to donate to various Israeli charities -- clearly I'm on some list that I never signed up for.i only use this email address for online purchases so it's pretty easy to put two and two together. Total scam artist, stay far far away from Yehoshua and Ahuva.com!
