My 90 year old WWII Veteran grandfather has COPD and has an extremely difficult time breathing, is on oxygen, and has been near death twice in the past 3 months. His HVAC unit has a humidifier to make the air more breathable for him. The unit went out, and he had to call for service. The broken part on the HVAC unit turned out to be a valve on the humidifier, which, again, moistens the air and helps with his breathing. We called the supplier about the part, and the valve is $50. The $50 valve was installed by this company, and they proceeded to charge my grandparents $500 for the job. To make it worse, the ENTIRE humidifier unit including valve only costs $150 new. This company came to perform service to a helpless little old couple on a fixed income, and chose to gouge them as hard as possible by charging $500 for the install of a $50 part. I understand that people are in business to make money, and I understand that a company is free to charge whatever they want. However, I also understand that a person's conscience should tell them that you don't take advantage of children, special needs, or elderly. A $200 or $250 bill would probably not even have been questioned, but $500 is absoultely out of line. Avoid this company. If they'll do this to the helpless, they'll do it to you.
