I tried to amicably work out a pricing dispute with Nick (owner) at Affordable Electric. I will be pursuing this matter legally.I have also complained to the Better Business Bureau and our State Attorney General.
While I do know that is is not illegal to use SEO (search engine optimization) it should be illegal to charge 2 to 3 times more than other electricians charge for the same services.
I have lived at the same address for more than 40 years, but they demanded $3330 up front before beginning the work of installing a new main power panel. Then when they were finished they demanded another $3000. When I said I don't have that much in my checking account, they disputed post-dating a check to allow me to make a savngs to checking transfer.
The entire transaction made me uncomfortable, the workers, the discussion regarding billing and payment, everything.
I am doubtful that my electric panel was inadequate to handle my new furnace installed 5 weeks earlier, as I was told.
I shared that I did an internet search on what their services typically cost and I got excuses like "but thats not for this area" and "the prices for the electric panel vary greatly, one day the panels are $1000 and the next day they are $3000."
Another electrician came to my home a few days later to correct electrical furnace connection that Affordable Electric refused to correct. That electrician confirmed what I had found in internet research, the work done by Affordable Electric should have been no more than $2000, and as he said $2500 at the most.
I sought legal advice, was advised to first present an opportunity for Affordable Electric to make corrections to charges, I did that. I told Nick at Affordable Electric that I would be posting negative on BBB and legally pursuing a $3800 refund. He said "go ahead."
