ADT Solar, LLC. Reviews

  • Oct 10, 2023

My wife and I approached Sunpro Solar (later sold to ADT, prior to our installation) to add solar panels to our home. Our house gets full sun 6-8 hours/day. The salesman suggested putting the panels on our barn (it gets significant shade during the day) and we told him the barn is shaded, the house is not. He said the engineers wanted to use the barn and that we would get enough sun exposure to offset a significant portion of our electric bill (averages $450/mo). After some more back and forth, ADT won the argument and installed on the barn. We had to cut down one tree ($$$) to improve the sun exposure. Since installation (which took months to complete and involved our county not approving the original array and reducing the number of panels because they would "produce too much power"), our power bills have been lowered by a mere $20-$50/month, while paying $359./mo to the finance company with our loan. A bill review was requested, because we were promised an 80% reduction in monthly electric bills - ADT offered us a settlement amount of $249 (not per month, TOTAL) for the prior 13 months and wanted us to sign a contract restricting us from posting negative reviews online. ADT says they can't control the weather (of course not!), but the fact that they installed the array on a building which gets significant shade, despite us asking for them to use the house, AND promised an 80% reduction puts some responsibility on the company.

1. Installation of Solar Arrays in incorrect and did not sign off on plan (would never sign my name "Dan" - Forgery 2. Used my income (wife was unemployed at the time) and therefore committed fraud while I was overseas. 3. Coerced my wife to sign and stated all documents would be sent for my review and signature. This never took place and when I saw the placement of the panels, I began dealing with the issues which they ignored for some time. 4. They asked to do a billing review because they could see a problem yet never completed it. 5. Installed a refurbished Nest Thermostat and contend it was new. I spoke to Google and confirmed it is refurbished. 6. Loan documentation fraud. Loan was to be completed under myself and my wife but since I was overseas they had her sign everything, removing me, the income producer of the family. Then they switched the type of contract, which they said they would send to me but to me for my review and signature, prior to installation but did not. The sign off ADT Solar of "Dan" on the picture attached is not me. Also, the Tree in the backyard does not overhang our home and is place south so would have no impact om energy production. 7. The company has worked very hard to get around each claim I have made, so much so that I had to call the bank, work with them, and restructure the entire deal, proving what we were promised and didn't receive. Keybank then removed them from their financing program because they were having other issues with them as well, having several complaints.

On Jun 2022 I signed a contract with ADT solar to install solar panels on my roof for fifty six thousand dollars. In august they installed my panels and I received a PDF file to sign that showed they have downgraded my inverters without my knowledge or approval. I contantacted my sales representative and they said that the utility had not approved the ones we discussed but they will wait to finish the install until they are approved and swap them out, this is on my personal emails.

At this time they activated the solar panel loan, even though the terms state it will not activate until the full system is installed, which my system only has panels. My sales representative said they will reimburse me for the payments which I have to ask for monthly which was also on my emails, and the loan has a balloon payment due in 17 month due to federal solar rebates on taxes, which I cannot claim due to the system not being fully installed.

After a few months later I contacted my utility and they have approved the new IQ8 micro inverters for residential installation. I contacted my ADT representative and they said they would start the installation. I was contacted a week later saying there was a problem that they did not want to swap out micro inverters due to time and cost. I explained I was promised by there representative to replace the equipment I was promised {IQ8 Inverter}.

I have been going back and forth with ADT escalation on this issue, they have been trying to gaslight me into saying that the IQ7 and IQ8s are the same. When I point out the technical differences I am met with silence.

On 01/26/2023 I was told by voice and email ADT will not honor their representative verbal and email contract to replace the Micro inverters.

We had the most terrible experience with ADT Solar! Awful customer service, communication, management and quality. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy! Over 7 months to get the system up and working! Workers cut my power, cable and irrigation! They even urinated on my property in broad daylight!

I endured at least 24 different issues with this company. They caused my great stress. Here are the latest mistakes made by Sunpro/ADT Solar on my solar installation as of 9/2122:

A) Half, or 24 of 48 of my solar panels are not working on a brand new install That is pathetic! B) The company knew that half of the panels were not working on a brand new system that was promised to be working in March! They told me it would be a month before it would be fixed! That is certainly not being responsive to a customer that has had all these issues getting solar panels working! 7 months! Really!

C)Noor, one of the account manager supervisors assigned to my case, told me that she would see that the solar permit was submitted to my power company. I waited 3 days and it still had not been submitted, so I submitted it myself. Another promise made and broken from your poor customer service personnel.

D)Vince said he would take over and work with me to resolve the many issues on my project. I sent him pictures of the latest broken pipe issue on the 7th Sept and asked him to contact me but he never did. Ghosting customers is never good policy.

E) As stated above, our gardener just noticed massive water pipe breakage due to the company’s negligence.

Half, 24 of 48 solar panels are not working on this brand new install, Candy informed me on Friday. I will need to pay someone to be there to supervise the repair. Really?! This company’s crew can’t even install the solar panels correctly?

So to sum up, I have at least 24 issues with my solar installation. The company has sent me 2 gift cards and Candy says a third is on its way. Those do not even begin to make up for all the anxiety, stress, time and effort I have experienced to to this botched solar installation.

1) I signed the contact in January ‘22. It was supposed to be installed on roof in March. ADT folks came out three separate days to try to install it. We had to change our schedules 3 different days only to be told that they could not do a roof install.

2) I was very upset and was put in touch with Neal. We decided to do a ground install. He was kind enough to tell us for all our trouble and delay that he would charge me the roof price for a ground install. Neal personally came out to tell me where the install would happen so I could move any shrubs in the way and call to have all utilities marked, which I did. I paid around $35,000 to you in March. The ground install could not happen for two months so I lost two months interest on that money.

3) We had to leave for Vermont when the ground install was scheduled so had to pay someone to be at house during install. I was told install would be 1 to 2 days. It took over a week, so that’s 5 days I had to pay someone to babysit a job that was supposed to be finished in March!

4) ADT’s crew first cut the power line to our house, leaving the house hot for about 4 hours. Then they cut the Xfinity line leaving our house unprotected by alarm and cameras when no one was there! The workers said both were not marked. I was not there so don’t know what the truth is. I do know One of the workers told my worker Sunpro/ADT would take care of getting Xfinity out to fix it ASAP. Well, that did not happen! 24 hours passed before I called Xfinity myself. Brian also called around the same time and a crew was dispatched but this company really needs to communicate clearly with the customer and this repeatedly has not happened.

5) We went out to speak with one of the workers on a Friday in May and saw him peeing on our property! C’mon! Where is this company’s professionalism???!

6) There was no supervisor the whole time M-F the crew was working. Again, not professional. Who knows what else that crew could have been doing on my property.

7) The crew destroyed one of my shrubs and tore up my grass without my permission.

8) Brian and the crew told us on a on Wednesday that they did not have the parts to finish the job and did not know when they would arrive. Seriously! What professional company tells a customer their project is all ready to be completed in 1 to 2 days as Spencer told me and then does not have the parts to complete the job!! Or not know when the parts will be in?

9)Brian, the supervisor told us the crew would be working today, Memorial

Day so I paid a worker double to come in. But they did not show up. Again, total lack of accurate communication with client and very unprofessional.

10) Sunpro/ADT told me the solar would be up and running in March, so that is 7 months of higher electric bills because of the company’s delays.

11) The concrete is uneven, unsafe and full of holes. It needs to be redone and have all the chunks left all over my property removed. Again, where is the supervision and professionalism of this company? They did repair it eventually, but really?

12) Noor, who is supposed to be dealing with my complaints as a customer seems put out that I am bringing them to her attention. She says I have “been bashing” her. I don’t need that from a person whose job is to resolve customer complaints. None of this is personal. I just want a working solar system and to be fairly compensated for all the unprofessional screw ups, delays and lack of communication that has been repeatedly happening since March!

13)All of this has caused great stress on me, my spouse and our relationship.

In short, this job has been botched so many times in so many ways! What a horrendous experience with this company!

The sales lady came out and made all sorts of promises. It sounded legit but I guess it was just a young lady preying on older folks with money. The project was delayed and then when they did show up the installers made such a mess that we couldn't let our dog in the back yard for fear he might eat any of the garbage left EVERYWHERE. I called but no one cared to come clean the mess up. It took a week to clean up.

Next SRP refuesed to certify the system and said 1/2 the installation was done incorrectly. 3 ADT/Sunpro supervisors came out and I was told the panels were on the wrong roof, The connectors were all wrong, and the system will never do what I paid for it to do.

They brought a crew up from Florida to fix everything but they said it was such a mess that I should start posting reviews. The lead guy said that is the only way I will ever get satisfaction. They left and didn't fix anything because it was beyond repair. The company needed to start over.

Much later after several complaints SRP and another ADT/Sunpro supervisor came out together. The other 2 Sunpro people never showed for the meeting. Both people at this meeting said the system was in the wrong place and it needed to be completely reinstalled.

It has been over a year and the credit union that paid the money has waived me making payments on the loan because ADT/Sunpro has NOT completed the contract. It has been 6 months since I heard from ADT who now owns the company. I will be paying a contractor to repair the roof leaks that ADT has refused to fix. If you use this company you WILL pay more than the price you bargained for. Be warned.

CONTRACT SIGNED 08/17/2021: -SunPro is in breach of contract, the installation was to be completed within 30-120 days but not longer than 6 months of signing of contract. This date has passed and we are still in the thick of it with this company. They have been paid because they installed the solar panels on the roof and the finance company released funds to them and it has been nothing but a fight to get them to perform and to finish the job correctly and without causing additional damages.

The written agreement prior to signing the contract was that the install would be completed over weekends to mitigate the time off due to your companies' delay. After signing the contract, we were told that only weekday installs would be done, and we would need to take the time off of work.

This continues to be an issue and it has financial implications and lost wages that the company fails to consider. If the installation had been completed properly and to code the first time, additional time off of work and lost wages would not ben necessary.

On 10/11/21 a wrong electrical system was installed due to the company getting the wrong permits from the county. This was not told to us prior to installation. Holes were drilled through the bricks of our home and large holes were made in interior drywall where the incorrect system was installed. The outside masonry has not been repaired correctly and has not been painted to match the color of the home. The electrical box front panel does not properly attach in two areas and needs to be completely replaced. The breakers are not tight and constantly trip with every day usage.

12/22/21 County Inspector came to the house to review the electrical panel. Failed the inspection due to improper wiring, holes drilled in the wood stud were too large and too close to the outer portion of the wall, and other defects. The reinspection was done and the large hole was to be repaired along with the electrical box and to this day are not repaired. The exterior masonry was not repaired correctly and not painted to match the house.

SunPro was to pay the cost of the monthly payments until the solar panels were switched on. Only one payment was made to Addition Financial in November 2021, and we had been responsible for the monthly payments for our electrical bill and the solar panels. SunPro made a payment for the missed payments for December through March on April 12th.

The April payment was not received until June and all payments take months to receive. This delay is solely on SunPro's negligence and delay and should not be the customer's responsibility pending repair and turn on. I have sent proof of the payments made to the solar financial company, as well as the electrical account payments to Vince Moore, with no resolution.

The promotional amounts of $7,654 and the electrical credit of $1,000 was due when the permission to operate was issued by the electrial company that finally occurred on May 17, 2022 and to date, they are not releasing payments to us even though the contract indicates that it would be issued "upon permission to operate." They said it would be 6-8 weeks to cut the check; however, that is not the contractual time frame and that time frame has also passed.

EnergyPro has not provided the 4 flood lights or the a/c sealing, as indicated in the contract.

Verbal, written, and website indicate misleading and false information regarding 26% tax rebate. Due to the negligence of SunPro, we are unable to claim the installation of the solar panels on our taxes and the $6,856 we would have received this year cannot be claimed and cannot be put toward the financial obligation to pay within 18 months to the financial company to ensure that the monthly cost does not increase by $150/month. The negligent delays have had financial implications on the repayment of the 26% within 18 months and is not at any fault of the homeowners.

Due to the electricians needing to constantly turn on and off the electrical panel due to their negligence, it shorted out the septic system wiring and caused a fire. On April 3, 2022. I spoke with the electrician who indicated that it was not a breaker issue and to have a septic company come look into the issue.

I paid to have a septic company come out April 6, 2022, and I was informed that there had been a short in the electrical system and that it sparked a fire in the septic area; therefore, an electrician would be required to come out to rewire, change out the breakers, and repair any other damaged parts. To date, it is not repaired and no offer to repair has been made.

The contractors that SunPro paid to come to my home have sat at my dinner table and hung out, wandered through my house aimlessly, took selfies in different areas of my home and have been completely unprofessional. The repairs that were attempted were not professional grade and additional damages were done.

Inside the wall that connects to my kitchen countertops, they caught an electric saw on a portion of the drywall ripping it off the back of the backsplash. Two of SunPro's employee indicated that it could not be repaired without removing the counters and countertops and SunPro refuses to do anything to offer a proper repair.

Two good faith efforts were made to have SunPro complete the contractual obligations and they have failed to do so. This company is the absolute worst. I do not recommend them. A year of hell.
