Actuarial Consulting Group Inc. Reviews
I'd seen a job opening for an entry level actuary and submitted a job application. A couple days later i received an email that was unlike any normal job responsesemail. The emailed appeared to be selling you on a career as an actuary, and encouraged you to "check out" out their website and figure out whether the job is right for you.
"before we can schedule an interview, it is essential for you to go towww.Beanactuary.Org, so that you can get an idea of the position for which you are applying. Also it is very important that you watch the video on the home page of beanactuary.Org called professional life and review our website at www.Actuarialconsultinggroup.Org."
Bottom line: stay away!
Suspicious
I myself also received this same e-mail. I have a phone interview scheduled today, so I decided to do a background check on the company. Upon doing so, I discovered numerous complaints all throughout the internet pertaining to ACG being a scam. I am thankful that a great deal of people took the time to write their complaints so that one less person will be stopped from falling into this scam.
Poor presentation gave it away
I submitted a resume for an ad by ACG on Indeed.com and within the week, received an "Introduction Letter" email outlining the list of things I needed to read off of www.beanactuary.org before I considered scheduling an interview. I found this weird...I found it weird that an Actuarial-based recruiting company would send a potential Actuarial candidate an introductory website on what an Actuary was and whether it's the right career or not. However, this was my first time heading down the path to becoming an Actuary so maybe I was being a bit too harsh. I read the materials from the website and also their website, www.actuarialconsultinggroup.org.
On their website, I came across typos, vague testimonials, and blogs that were all updated on the same day (possibly the day their website launched). Hmmm...getting a bit more suspicious than I'm supposed to but with a strong curiosity remaining, I scheduled for an interview. Carmen Sutton then sent me two documents: one that was a template of the congratulation letter sent to those who passed the Exam P/1 (why?) and a document with a contract at the end with regards to enrolling in a Exam P/1 preparation course for $380.00. The contract also promises to reimburse the candidate the $225.00 examination fee along with the cost of the ACTEX study manual upon being successfully placed by ACG. Also, there were typos and awkward sentences in the second document. I'd say my favorite line from the text was mentioning that they spoke with "the Professor" who apparently gave them the green light to launch the online course.
It was then when I decided to search up ACG and found several complaints filed against them for scamming people and doing so for years! Changing their names and their company's name to boot!
Final thoughts: don't trust this company.
