Do women still aquire titles through marriage? It seems they do at Academy of Art University, where” The Princess, Doctor Elisa Stephens, “ holds court.
(Or did hold court until 1996, when she became “ineligible to practice law.”)
But, let us not focus only on The Princess, when we have so many other titled, American, Academic, “ladies in waiting,” to examine.
One Gleeful, title holder is Anna Nelson, married to Doctor, Craig Nelson, head of the Fine Art Department at AAU. The Princess Elisa made him a Doctor. You’ll best remember him from the plagiarism case, dated June 24th, 1987, where Doctor Craig drew pictures too closely related to Artist Saul Steinberg’s, original March 29th, 1976, on the cover of The New Yorker Magazine.
(Saul Steinberg vs Columbia Pictures Inc)
One is to presume that Doctor Craig demurred upon his own creative muse above. However, as a mere onlooker, I must say that the creative titles he bestows on his wife, Anna, are a production of true showmanship and seductive, storytelling . . .worthy of a full color, original illustration. His wife, Anna has had so many titles in her many positions at AAU.
(Let me clarify this last statement, “academic positions.”)
Let us examine just one of her position at AAU, “Director of Online Graduate Studies.” Anna entered this title it appears through marriage, as she did not even finish her bachelor’s degree!
Having attended AAU during this time, I made note of this kink in the chain of command. Further, coming from an academic family background I was intrigued to unravel these following mysteries of accreditation:
1. Anna’s rise to scholarly prominence. 2. The source of Craig Nelsons’ academic authority. And 3. Princess Elisa’s divine right to bestow Doctorates.
Moreover, I investigated these academic anomalies even more deeply when I had evidence that both my scholarship and research were not being handled properly in the academic fashion outlined per AAU’s accreditor, WASC Senior. Eventually, WASC took some actions to help reign in Princess Elisa’s autocratic administration. You can find a history of these actions here on the WASC website and at the links provided at the end of this narrative:
Back to my story . . . at this point I began to realize that my Alma Mater was not complying with many standards of accreditation. It is accreditation which allows colleges and universities to open the treasure chest of federal funding. As I was anxious that my education be of the highest mark, I filed complaints where and when I found evidence of inconsistent financial, academic or administrative practices.
I seems that these attempts by me to receive the education promised by both AAU advertisements and AAU recruiters, resulted in getting Anna Nelson’s attentions. Just look how I was discussed by her in interoffice memos. I quote her remarks below:
"I certainly don't want her to be bugging Elisa" -Anna Nelson page 76, docs provided by Vartain Law Group

The May 23, 2014 email to Sue Rowley
“Hi Sue, Nathan, Craig wanted to let you know that Vanda’s Professional work has nothing to do with the three paintings for the class in question. That is all we should be discussing”— Anna Nelson
And
Anna even said this about me on May 23, 2014:
“Can we get her to leave?” Anna Nelson to Sue Rowley, “Chief Academic Officer at Academy of Art University” or “Executive Vice President of Educational Services and International Admissions,” Sue Rowley . Sue has many titles too.
I hope you have enjoyed this mini introduction to the Titled Ladies of the Academy of Art University. Remember, my story and do not upset what WASC Senior described as “AAU’s flat Organizational,” protocols if you want to ensure that you graduate in a timely fashion. Alas, my 4-year degree is now in court in Santa Cruz County, Superior Court, this Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Footnote, I began my degree in the summer of 2009.
I am sharing the court case number with you, should you wish to investigate this for yourself. Santa Cruz Superior Court, case #CV 181380
