My brother's car was recently damaged in an accident and he asked me for feedback on Milwaukee area body shops. I immediately told him where NOT to take his car, based on a horrible experience I had around 2009. Just recounting the experience got me all upset again to the point where I felt I needed to make it available to the public.
My 2004 Toyota Camry had been hit by a drunk driver.
- On State Farm and Wilde Toyota's recommendations I went there to have the car looked at. The manager had me pull the car in a bay, he went over it carefully (as I had) and his list of what needed fixing exactly matched mine so I was satisfied. I made an appointment for the following week. This is all at their Brookfield location close to my place of employment.
- I showed up got my appointment and they told me they can’t fix it there, I need to take it to their Waukesha location. No call ahead of time, nothing in advance. I said I didn’t have time, I needed to get to work and the Enterprise guy was standing there with my rental. They said OK but I needed to sign a release to let one of their go-fers drive it to Waukesha. I asked if they were saying that if he gets in an accident with the car, it would go against MY insurance? They said yes, to which I replied no way, and started to leave. They then said they would take my car via flatbed it to Waukesha. Car was promised on a specific date, I think it was about 6 working days later.
- I showed up on the day the car was promised - it’s not ready. Again, no call, nothing till I show up. The Enterprise guy is standing there again waiting to take the rental, but he is very nice, says I can keep the rental, and he will get someone to come and get him.
- Car is “done” a couple of days later but the hood hadn’t been clear-coated as promised, and I could have done better than their amateurish attempt at touching up the hood. They blame is on State Farm saying they wouldn’t authorize the recommended work but they would clear-coat it if I pay for it. I told him I really don’t care who does or doesn’t pay for what. I’m not paying a dime and I expect all the promised work to be done. I take the car back, a State Farm guy comes to my place of employment to look at the hood and immediately says “no problem, I don’t know why they didn’t just do it.” At this point, I am suspecting an integrity issue rather than simple incompetence.
- I make another appointment with Abra in Brookfield, take the car back a second time and once again they cannot do the work at their Brookfield location despite the appointment and want the car at their Waukesha shop. Once again, the car is taken via flatbed to their Waukesha location.
- I get the car back a couple days later and there is clear-coat overspray all over the driver’s door. They apparently didn’t mask far enough back but by then I was so disgusted I just took the car and polished out the overspray myself.
This was the single worst customer service experience of my life and, based on that, I couldn't recommend ABRA to my worst enemy.
