ABC Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Electrical, IL 60004 - Problem with Product/Service
ISSUE: Pressure Tactics by Service Technician - I have asked for a diagnostic service by a plumber from 4abc.com for replacing an old water gas heater. The start was easy and I was scheduled for a prompt service on 5/25/2021. The service technician came out, looked around, and hand wrote what needs to be done and came up with a bottom line total (with no details of product and labor cost). Initially, the person gave me an option of using Bradford White or State water gas heater of the same capacity of 50 Gallons.
Everything looked good so far, however, when I presented him with a check for the diagnostic service fee and asked him to wait for my decision, he suddenly started to be more pushy. He tried to offer me some discount/ coupon rebate and insisted on getting it done instantly! He further stated that this rebate was for a specific "State" - Proline gas water heater which was already loaded in his truck and he refused to consider the earlier stated option of Bradford White heater.
Ultimately I submitted to his discounted offer, however, knowing very well that I have had the options of having a better deal and having a product of my choice: Bradford White or State - and a prescribed model. 4abc.com advertises a lot on the internet about "our promises to You: convenient for you, we work on your schedule etc." and now I am faced with a pushy salespeople taking advantage of anxiety to make impulse purchases or rash decision! - certainly something is missing up there and the client feel TRAPPED!!!

My 82 year old mother called this company for a leak under her bathroom sink. They have a $59 special to look into it and they told her she needed a new faucet and pipes under the sink for $1380.
She said the plumber rep was nice so she trusted him and had them do it. The plumber explained that they only use high quality parts, and she would save $200 and get a warranty if she signed up for their plan for $17 a month.
Once the plumber came back, he had two tools in his hand which my mom asked if that was all he needed and he said yep. He completed the work somewhere between 30-35 minutes which she was surprised on how quickly it went.
Then she told us about it and going over the story, it didn't seem right which we reached out to the company. As a side note, they have a complaint department (yes, a department just to handle complaints) which they were too busy on Monday and did not call back until Tuesday. Once they so called investigated it, there was nothing they can do.
I am all about paying a fair price for services but here are the pictures of what they replaced and how much they were at Home Depot which added up to $70.11. What they did was take advantage of an elderly person and want to make sure we get the word out so no other person gets taken advantage of and you can also see similar reviews on Yelp.
Abc plumbers wanted to charge 59 for an estimate. They came for toilet leak repair quoted 564. They were late for the apptmt. We found other plumbing co to do same repair for 95 major ripoff and tried to sell the bs 17 a month plan do not use these overchargers
I want to try to save anybody and everybody that I can from making the big mistake of hiring this company for any of their services. I used to work for the company up until about a year ago until I just had to quit because I was "fed up" with all the lies, deceipt and poor workmanship that was happening at the expense of the customers.
The company loves to boast that they are a "family run business" but that family that runs the company are only concerned with lining their own pockets with money as opposed to truly helping out the customer. Time and time again customers would call the company to complain about how they ended up paying twice as much and sometimes even more with ABC than if they would have gone with another company.
Customers would also call to complain that they had put a negative review on Yelp but that review would mysteriously vanish after a short period of time. There were also various incidents in which customers would pay thousands of dollars to have something installed or fixed and they would have to end up calling back the company sometimes even two, three, four and even five different times to keep having people come back out there to fix the same problem that occurred in the first place.
We would also have customers that would call ABC Plumbing for one issue and after the plumber/technician/electrician had left, another problem would start to mysteriously occur. I have spent many years of my life in the customer service business and this company by far is the worst when it comes to customer service for the customer as well as how deceiptful they can be.
ABC was constantly arriving late to customers homes and often had to reschedule appointments even when a customer had taken a day off of work for service and they even had on several occasions ended up sending the technician to a completely different residence and the technician didnt even know it was the wrong residence until after he had finished up with the appointment and was back in his truck.
I truly do hope that you can end up taking my advice and stay as far away from this company as possible.
