I wanted to make your aware of the service that was received from the Amaco shop located in Arlington Heights, IL.
On March 29th, 2023 2014 Ford Escape SE was taken to be repaired for a casting leak then it turns into a huge problem with the transmission after being there a month. There were several phone calls, text messages via website, and conversations with Charline, at HDQ 267-464-1619, but to no avail to get refund,
The first-time car was returned as being repaired, it stopped working within 9 minutes then it only went backwards also white smoke. God was watching over my mother, NM, that there was no traffic behind her as who knows what could have happen, so she backed up to a parking lot by a church. The car was tolled back to Amaco in Arington Heights, IL. The car was return supposedly repaired when delivered to 1475 Rebecca Dr so we could ensure that it would not stop working but it made it. It was return mid-May. but only lasted close to a month thus being tolled to the Libertyville shop because trust was lost with Arlington heights, IL.
I requested a full refund for the time lost in income after almost two months and counting. A loan was obtained with EasyPay with the help of the manager which was for $2000.00 which turns into $4000.00ish. How can Amaco associate with such a company when they know that the customer wasn't receiving any income. My mother worked with manager and she was so trusting, what a huge mistake. It was requested several times that the money be returned to EasyPay which is what was told by EasyPay. The Attorney General said to try to work things out so it doesn't have to go further.
Jermine isn't any longer with the company and who knows what was done to the car to cause a huge repair bill. I was told that Allen wasn't with the shop owner but when the car was delivered, it was Allen and Gino. Lies on top of lies, why not be honest with the customer and say we messed up so now it turned into a transmission problem, please understand that the true is only known by the people involved with the repairs.
All conversations were with my mother, NM, as she was the one to pay for repairs as I had no money, Uber was my source of income. Jasmine was told several times to return the car so it could be taken elsewhere but he stated it was in pieces. I felt my car was being held as a hostage and I had no choice but wait. Several complaints were filed with Amaco also other government agencies. this problem has caused several arguments between my mother and me. My question is there hope for my car being repaired properly so I can get to work, still in shop as of present time at another shop.

They allow your vehicle to be vandalized on their property. A window was smashed on my car and items stolen. They took 3 weeks to do a warranty transmission replacement (when other AAMCOs do 24-48hr turn around time), neglected to tell me my car was vandalized until I told them I arranged for my car to be picked up.
They have no insurance to cover vandalism of your car, yet I suspect my car was sitting idle in their lot for those three weeks. In addition, my transmission failed again within a month of me having my car back. They cost me three weeks of car rental fees plus the cost to get my vandalized car repaired and their repair was bogus.
I will never go to AAMCO Albuquerque or any other AAMCO again. Instead of fixing the problem with the transmission under warranty, they will only replace it. If that does not work, then you have no recourse because they will only offer to replace instead of repairing. AAMCO put two transmissions in my car. After the third offer to replace my transmission (and having to rent another car while they did this), I am done with AAMCO.
Poor quality work, false advertisement as they cannot repair your transmission but will put you into a loop of having to have it replaced over and over. I thought I was getting a deal, but they cost me $5000.
Wed 3/28 3pm my girlfriend dropped my car off at AAMCO location in Lake Forest, CA and she turned the car over to local manager David Garcia. He test-drove the car and stated that the problem doesn’t appear to be the transmission itself, but he would advise later that afternoon. She called many times No one called back that night.
Thu 3/29 I called David first thing in the morning and he stated that it is the transfer case and the cost will be $750. The repair was scheduled to be finished by Fri (3/30) evening.
Fri 3/30 I called four times, asked for David, and was told that David would call me back right away. He never returned my phone call that day. After the fifth call he told me that the car will be ready on Monday! I extended my rental and felt frustrated.
Monday 2/4 I called in the morning and David informed me that the car will be ready that evening. In the evening however he informed me that the vehicle can be picked up Tue morning!
Tue 4/3 In the morning, David informed me that they have discovered another issue with the drive shaft which would result in additional $625 and the car would be ready on Thursday!!
I stated that I don’t want to invest anymore money into a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero with 130,000 miles.
He personally guaranteed that this would be the last money required and that the car will be 100% fixed and 100% ready on Thursday. I then agreed to proceed. I felt like I had no another choice as I needed the car fixed for my livelyhood! I started to get very frustrated and had no idea this is just a beginning!
Thu 4/5 David has called me to inform that the car will be ready Friday morning.
Fri 4/6 David informed me that the vehicle will be ready that night and in the evening revised his statement again till Monday!
Mon 4/9 In the morning I called the shop and David stated that the car will be ready in the afternoon and in the afternoon, for the first time on his own, he called and informed me that the car is ready!! I asked if they offer a discount if my made my payment in cash and he confirmed that if I pay cash there would be a $75 discount. Final amount turned out to be $1300. In the afternoon I went to pick up my car. When I was making my payment at the counter I asked David if everything is OK. He assured me that he personally drove the vehicle, the car is in best shape and that I will receive 18 months or 18,000 miles warranty. I got in my car, started the engine, drove and thought I have entered a bad dream! $1,300 later - The car was making exactly the same noises which led me to seek the transmission shop originally!! After a 10 min drive I returned to the shop and asked David if this is all a joke.. David got in the car with me and after a minute of driving he stated that this will be some other issue with the car. Really?! I told David that I would like to get my money back. He stated that I will not get my money back but I am welcome to leave the car in the shop because it is under a warranty. I asked to speak to the owner (Mike Tanner) and stated that I will file a complaint with Aamco corporate office. David spoke to the owner and informed me that the owner will refund me half of the money if I leave the shop and never come back! At this point I stated again that I am filling a complaint with Aamco headquarters or I want my car in proper shape back or my money back. David asked me to calm down and that they don’t need any problems and assured me that they will get the car fixed. I agreed and left. I have not heard all week from him, nor the ownership.
Mon 4/16 I called the shop and David stated that he is at a funeral and that he will definitely get in touch with me on Tue.
Tue 4/17 I called in the morning and David informed me that they finally figured out what is the cause. He stated that it is something with the transmission and it will cost additional $625! He stated I would not be charged for labor. I told him he must be joking. I asked for my car back and told him I will not pay anything additional and that I better sell the car for $1000 to be parted out. At that point he quickly reacted and said that the car is not drivable and wouldn’t be able to leave the shop. He offered to buy the car from me for $500! After this incident I contacted AAMCO headquarters with the complaint and the demand for my money back or my car back in a running condition and properly warrantied. No resolution.
As of today (4/26 - thats 3 weeks later!), I am out of $1300.00, I am not in possession of my car and continue paying for my rental car for past three weeks! I still believe that this is only a bad dream. My friends made me aware of horrific reviews on AAMCO and I found many customers with same and or similar problems especially for this location! it seams like David intentionaly misleads clients with a wrong diagnostic resolving in low estimates and once in possession of the car, forcing people to pay more and more money for further repairs.
please protect yourself and people you know by staying away from this location.
I just filed a report with Department of consumer affairs Bureau of Automotive Repair and thats just a beginning.
I assume if you came that far reading my report you are in a similar situation! so if any of you are up for coming in with me on a group Law Suit action agains AAMCO, I am IN!!! please contact me at any time!
They promise they would have it 7-8 working days its been 6 wk. no transmission he said could not find a good case tostart with called him serval times kept giving me the round around . he said would refund my money he never has . this is not fair i worked hard for that money and now i dont have a tranny or my money. he cashed my check and produced no transmission that is a felony.
The DeLand Aamco replaced the engine on my Saturn Vue three months ago, at a cost of $3000.00. Two days ago, the starter on my car died--and the mechanic I called came out to the house and says it is because oil leaked from the engine onto the starter.
I called Aamco and spoke with Chris, who kept talking over me and telling me that since I called another mechanic (I cannot afford to have my vehicle towed to Aamco as well as get it repaired due to an oil leak in the engine they installed) and my son was supposed to bring the car back to Aamco at 8am the next day (the starter died after my son left Aamco, and prior to the next day, in the parking lot at Walgreen's, and I was able to have the car towed home with my roadside assistance--which I've now used up) that it was "all on" me.
Then he hung up on me. So much for Aamco and their warranty, and Chris's clear lack of customer service skills.
EDITED TO ADD UPDATE:
AAMCO: Just an F/Y/I....we towed the car in at no expense to the customer. Told them if it had anything to do with our repair we would cover it. The oil on the starter was from the prior engine that had put a rod through the block. We did replace the starter and replaced the battery which was also was bad. We are sorry you weren't happy with our customer service and it was mentioned to Chris. He gets very, very busy trying to get every ones car repaired and back to them as soon as possible.
MJ Falango: It should be noted that--while corporate did arrange to have the vehicle towed to the DeLand AAMCO--the charge for the replacement starter was $420. This was at least $100 higher than each of the other three repair shops with which I checked. Also, by stating that the oil was from the engine they replaced, they make clear that when they replaced the OILESS engine, they did NOT check to see if any other damage had occurred. Further, the day we first took the car to AAMCO and were told to return the next day, AutoZone had tested the battery, and reported a 96% charge. But once AAMCO towed the car, I was at their mercy. Hence, a new--and unnecessary--$150 battery.
MJ Falango: As far as Chris goes, he's very fortunate to work for ANY place which will tolerate repeated (as evidenced by the many recent one-star Google and Yelp reviews that mention Chris) episodes of poor customer service. Had I treated anyone the way he repeatedly does, I'd have been fired on the spot. Even a minimum-wage fast food employee would quickly find himself unemployed.
On September 8, 2016 I brought my car to AAMCO Transmission D/B/A Pearl River Transmission because I was having trouble shifting. I receive a phone call from the owner Chris telling me that he received two error codes and needed to do a Multipoint inspection.
When I asked how much, he said no charge. Not at any time did I authorize him taking apart my transmission. Several days later I get a phone call from Chris telling me that I needed a transmission. I said no and that I would be down to get the car. His response was " Oh I thought you knew I was taking apart the transmission". You didn't need to take apart the transmisson on a car that was nineteen years old with high mileage to figure out that the car needed a transmission.
A first year student at BOCES could have told me that I needed a transmission. I'm then told that it would cost the same for a transmission as it would to put the transmission back together. Being caught between a rock and a hard place I agreed to have a transmission installed. I later find out that it was used, not rebuilt.
This is a dishonset, despicable repair shop. At the present time this business is under investigation by two New York State agencys and the Better Business Bureau.
I did file a complaint with AAMCO corporate headquarters. They weren't too concerned.
I called aamco seeing as they are supposed to be a well reputable company well boy was I wrong. I called and spoke to Mike about the issues I was having and he said drop it off we will check it out. So I dropped it off got a call saying it needed a full rebuild. The verbal assessment that I was given was d**n near everything was bad in my transmission at 92,000 miles and believe me my car has been very well maintained and taken care of. Well the first issue was I was given a rediculous price to have this rebuild somewhere around 8,000$. Well me in shock I said no I believe you are sadly mistaken I am not paying that when I can buy a refurbished one from auto zone for around 5000$. I was told I was wrong and that they don't make a such thing as a refurbished trans the same model as mine so I told him to go do his own research because I found it pretty sad a well know transmission shop manager didn't told me I was wrong when clearly I was correct. I was also told that my car had such and such a transmission in it, which he was once again wrong and I had to correct him. So he said he would call me back after he did some research, well he calls me back saying I was right(which I already knew) he then proceeded to give me a price just over the price of the brand new refurbished one. I declined and said no thanks then he proceeds to get me to around just under 5k$ with a pretty decent warranty. I went to aamco the following day to see what was going on with my transmission . I asked to see the bad parts in my transmission and he said that it was all stacked up in order that it goes in and he can't pull it apart so nothing gets messed up, meanwhile locking the garage part of the shop up. He then took me to the office and proceeded to go over all the parts that were faulty and I asked to see the order sheets for my new parts and I was also declined to see them. Once again thinking nothing of it knowing aamco is a well known "reputable" business. So I told him it would take me up to three weeks to come up with the money he said no problem. I get a call three days later saying my car is done. Wow three days for a full rebuild and you had a completely packed shop? Well I said I would not have the money for another three days. He called my phone every day almost three times a day the eating to charge me excessive amounts of money for storage fees and such and such so I was forced to borrow money from the company I work from to pay him to avoid these storage fee threats. So I get my car back not happy at all after this whole deal. Happy to have my car back, I driving home in such a good mood now because I have My vehicle back and not having to ask and pay for rides. So I'm driving home not even 20 mins from aamco shop and I got to pass a car on the interstate and what do you know my car drops out of gear. The exact same thing it did when I dropped it off. So I coast to the side of the road almost being hit by other cars. I come to a complete stop then put it in park then drive and it goes again as it did before. Then I try to use cruise control which worked flawlessly before they touched it. Doesn't work. Great. So I drive home, can't call aamco because they are closed I had to fly out of town for work the following morning and have been out of town since. My girlfriend drives my car to do her basic things each day. The car since then has dropped out of fear many many times cruise control still doesn't work traction control hasn't worked at all either. The car downshifts so hard sometimes it squeals the tires and just recently she said it threw a check engine code. So she takes the car to advanced auto and they run a code reader and it says problems in the trans, boy what a surprise. She had another shop all this time it had something. To do with the transmission control module not the internals. She can't afford I drop the car of to aamco again and lose her job and I couldn't see her doing that either. And I'm at fear for having my car even more messed up. So needless to say I have been screwed over by aamco of close to 5,000$ and I have no clue what to do.

Good morning Mr. Gregory,
I wanted to make your aware of the service that was received from the Amaco shop located in Arlington Heights, IL.
