AAA Moving & Storage Reviews

  • Jan 31, 2022

Moving can be both mentally and physically challenging and the relationship that you form with your moving company is paramount in the success or failure of your overall moving experience. I, wholeheartedly, admit that I made a colossal mistake in choosing AAA Moving & Storage as my Long Distance Moving Company.

I proceeded, initially, with the usual research process of comparing several moving companies but should have delveloped deeper into the integrity/credibility of AAA Moving & Storage before making a full commitment. I had virtually no traditional furniture pieces to move and since my move consisted primarily of Banker Boxes and Sterilite Totes, I checked, double checked, and triple checked the number of boxes and especially the different sizes of totes, with Jason Watts, to make certain that we were on the same page.

There were other belongings as well, but nothing as abundant in scope as the boxes and totes. Since everything was handled Online, there was no physical paperwork but AAA’s specific Terms of Agreement were highlighted on their Move Confirmation E-Mail. Finally, in June 2021, “in good faith,” I contracted what I believed to be a Binding Estimate with AAA Moving & Storage to transport my belongings from Allen, TX to Tucson, AZ. All seemed “Great” and I was elated that I had contracted a Full Service Moving Company that was well within my Senior Citizen Budget.

On the day of the move (21 June 2021) the moving crew arrived on time and was in good spirits. Upon entering the property, William, the Crew Foreman, began visually scrutinizing the boxes, totes, and the other belongings now readied for pickup. In less than 5 minutes he determined that he could already see that there was more than the 700 cu. ft. Original Base Estimate, and the final inventory count would be dependent upon his numbers alone.

When the movers arrived, I was still packing clothing in three Wardrobe Storage Bags and I had completely forgotten to add an Appliance Dolly to the Inventory List. I also packed more Banker Boxes, but since I had allotted for 100 boxes total, it would not have proven an issue. The move progressed without a major incident occurring and I was delighted to see an empty floor, again. Afterward, William had me look around and verify that they had successfully taken all that needed to be moved. By this point in time, all of my multiple days of non-sleep had kicked in royally and all that I was consciously thinking about was finally having everything over and done with.

William presented me with a Post Contract Services Order Form (consisting of available Optional Services to be Performed on Delivery Day such as Flights of Stairs Carry, Long Carry, Shuttle Service, Re-delivery, Waiting Service, Storage Service), an Interstate Bill of Lading – Valuation Addendum (showing 2 Options for the Carrier’s Liability for Loss or Damage to Household Goods, etc.), and an Interstate Bill of Lading Contract and Order for Service (the On Site Inventory List that emphasized an Additional 250 cu. ft. of items).

My Binding Estimate rose from $2887.50 (including 10% Fuel Surcharge) to $3918.75 (including 10% Fuel Surcharge). This was exactly $1,031.25 over the Original Base Estimate. Okay, I was more than willing to take full responsibility for exceeding the base estimate if William could tell/show me exactly where I messed up, but I was only able to elicit a nonchalant shrug of the shoulders from him. I was devastatingly tired and foolishly signed any line that William pointed to on the Interstate Bill of Lading Contract – Valuation Addendum and the Interstate Bill of Lading Contract and Order for Service. In lieu of having to pay the Remaining Balance Due upon Delivery (in Tucson) in the form of Cash or a Post Office Money Order, I elected to Pay in Full to eliminate having any drama occur prior to unloading at the final destination.

Logic dictated that I simply wait until I fully regained my rationale before questioning the obvious changes to the Original Base Estimate. It was not until the movers had left the premises and closed up the truck that I noticed that they had not taken two of the items clearly listed on my Inventory List [1 Exercise Equipment Small (a Rowing Machine) and 1 Chair High Back (my Office Chair)]. By that time it was too late to even entertain asking the movers to come back and put the items in the truck, so I just let the incident go and called it a day.

My move to Tucson, AZ was supposed to go fairly smoothly and without any unforeseen turbulence ahead. After all, I had lived there before, knew people that still lived there, was in touch with a former Landlord/Realtor who promised to help me secure housing, but with COVID-19 cases up surging, the immediate housing situation drastically changed once I arrived. Therefore, after 6 weeks of hemorrhaging money at the Extended Stay America on Grant (in Tucson, AZ) without securing housing, I decided to return to Texas.

During my stay in Tucson, I had an opportunity to thoroughly review the Post Contract Services Order Form, the Interstate Bill of Lading Contract - Valuation Addendum, and the Interstate Bill of Lading Contract and Order for Service. They all primarily make the Shipper (the Individual Customer) Liable for practically everything and assures/provides Limited Liability Rights to the Carrier (AAA Moving & Storage). As if in anticipation of any Legal Actions upon them by Individual Customers and/or any Class Action Suits, there is also wording in the Interstate Bill of Lading Contract and Order of Service that makes any Legal Action by Individuals or Groups a costly venture.

Justifiably, I had not fully recovered from the initial moving day shock and was still perturbed over the $1,031.25 difference between the Original Base Estimate and the final Interstate Bill of Lading Contract and Order of Service. I initially contacted Jason Watts to voice my concerns and he immediately referred me to Tsofia Peret-Harris, AAA Moving & Storage’s Owner and Operations Manager. I texted her twice requesting a copy of a Detailed Inventory Report that would, undoubtedly, show an exact Accounting of what made up the $3,918.75.

Additionally, the hand written print on my pink copy of the Interstate Bill of Lading and Order of Service was practically illegible and extremely hard to decipher. As I mentioned prior, I texted Tsofia twice requesting a Detailed Inventory Report of the transaction and was, consequently, ignored twice. I used to work in Accounting, therefore, I am aware that for an individual or company to ask to see a copy of a specific Detailed Inventory Report is not an unreasonable request and is merely an indicator of transparency. Once again, I just let the incident go and called it a day.

My decision to move back to Texas came unexpectedly because I had pre-planned and worked so hard to make Tucson, AZ happen because I truly believed that it was the place for me to semi-retire before heading elsewhere. On 16 August 2021, I contacted Tsofia, via Text Message, explaining the unforeseen/extenuating circumstances to her and further requesting a Partial Refund of $3,546.92 [$2,625.00 (Base)+937.50 (the Additional 250 cu. ft.)+356.25 (Fuel Surcharge)-371.83 (Free Complimentary 30 Day Storage)] for the Interstate Move to Tucson, AZ that would never come to fruition. I naively thought that this would prove to be an amiable solution.

Now that I had returned to Texas, I needed to secure a local Storage Facility to house my belongings and, in addition, arrange a date for AAA Moving & Storage to facilitate the delivery. It was during that live conversation (via Cell phone) that Tsofia and I discussed AAA Moving & Storage’s Refund Policy and subsequently arranged for delivery to the storage facility. Tsofia explained that since I contracted an Interstate Move from Allen, TX to Tucson, AZ (a 980 mile trip) based on the Volume of belongings requiring transport, despite the destination change, the Volume of belongings does not, and of course there would be no Refund.

I was baffled because that meant that I spent $4,290.58 [$3,918.75 (Total TX to AZ)+$371.83 (Additional Month Storage Fee for July 2021)] for a 25 mile or less trip from Allen, TX to the AAA Moving & Storage Facility in Dallas, TX, and from the AAA Moving & Storage Facility in Dallas, TX to my storage facility in Carrollton (8.8 miles). Who in their right mind would do such a thing? Later on that evening I received a post-Contract, Follow up Letter (via E-Mail) recollecting all of the details that Tsofia made earlier in the day.

Despite facing the realization that I just squandered almost $4,300.00 on a Long Distance move that would never occur, I still needed to collect my belongings from AAA’s Moving & Storage Facility. Only subsequent to a few hiccups in communication with Tsofia from 18 August 2021 to 30 August 2021, I finally received delivery of my belongings on Tuesday, 31 August 2021. Once again, William, AAA’s Moving & Storage Crew Foreman, along with two other crew members arrived at my storage facility on time and in good spirits. After a couple of hours, the delivery was completed, I signed the papers, and I bade farewell to one of the worse financial mistakes of my life.

A few days later, once again, I decided to check, double check, and triple check all of the paperwork that I had received from AAA Moving & Storage to see where I made such a Nonsensical Error in judgment.

Binding Estimate: My comprehension of a Binding Estimate, when moving, is that it reflects the steadfast price that I will ultimately pay according to pre-agreed upon quotes between the Shipper and Carrier prior to moving day, per the Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move Handbook Rights-and-Responsibilities-2013.pdf (dot.gov) (Page 15). From 15 June’s 2021 Binding Estimate thru 16 June’s 2021 Moving Confirmation (appears to encapsulate the basics of AAA’s Moving & Storage Contract Agreement), there is no mention of the conditions that constitute AAA Moving & Storage’s reasoning’s for wavering from the pre-Documented Binding Estimate at will. I comprehend the concept of additional inventory, but 3 Storage Bags and an Appliance Dolly Do Not add up to 250 cu. ft. However, on 21 June 2021 (the scheduled day of the move), AAA Moving & Storage’s Crew Foreman (William) arrived with a completely different agenda. Within the first five minutes of arrival, William determined that I had more than the pre-Documented Binding Estimate reflected and that the findings on the newly introduced Interstate Bill of Lading Contract and Order for Service would go unchallenged.

Once the move was complete, as I mentioned earlier, my Binding Estimate rose from $2887.50 (including 10% Fuel Surcharge) to $3918.75 (including 10% Fuel Surcharge). This was exactly $1,031.25 over the Original Base Estimate. How could that be, since I checked, double checked, and triple checked every entry on my Inventory List with Jason prior to booking and scheduling the move? I could possibly understand a $1,031.25 difference if I had an enormous amount of furniture to move, but 90% or more of my belongings consisted of Banker Boxes and Tote Bins.

Cost Based on Volume Being Shipped: In retrospect, I failed to comprehend AAA Moving & Storage’s Cost Based on the Volume Being Shipped concept and its unspecified hidden consequences. Whether an individual’s destination is 1,200 feet (around the corner) or 1,200 miles (to another state), their contracted amount remains the same. AAA Moving & Storage never mentions this pertinent information in the Online Moving Confirmation, the Interstate Bill of Lading and Order of Service Agreement, or elsewhere. It was not until Tsofia’s post-Conversation, post-Contract, Follow-up Letter to me was AAA’s Cost Based on Volume Being Shipped unspecified hidden consequences revealed. The Volume Concept still perplexes me to an extent because my belongings never Crossed State Lines as per the Definition of an Interstate Move [Interstate moving: Top 5 things you need to know - Moving Tips (Point #1)]. Unless there is some Invisible State Line between Allen, TX and Dallas, TX that I am unaware of, there was no formal crossing. I am a 73 year old Senior Citizen on a Limited Budget who was not prepared to squander nearly $4,300.00 on a whim due to unforeseen circumstances.

For all intents and purposes, AAA Moving & Storage portrays, an Online Image, as an Immaculately Credentialed, High Integrity Company who boasts an array of Impressive Moving & Storage Category Awards. AAA Moving & Storage’s Website (http://www.aaamovingstorage.com) advertises that they are Accredited and have a perfect A+ Rating with the Better Business Bureau. However, when I check the BBB site (AAAMOVING&STORAGE | Better Business Bureau® Profile (bbb.org),) Online, it claims that AAA Moving & Storage is Not Accredited by the Better Business Bureau, and per the BBB site information, “Only select businesses earn BBB Accreditation (the Business Emblem) by undergoing a thorough evaluation and upholding the BBB Accreditation Standards”. Is it legitimate for a company to advertise such information on their Website, especially something as important as a Better Business Bureau Accreditation? I do not know. Additionally, Angie’s List Awards and Home Advisor Recognitions figure prominently on the AAA Moving & Storage Website.

In conclusion, I wish to place a ballot in the AAA Moving & Storage suggestion box for future reference and deliberation:

Dear Tsofia:

You have an opportunity to become an Exceptional Role Model of High Integrity for Women and Girls as a Successful Female Entrepreneur in a Male Dominated Arena. Karmic Justice is brutal, especially when an individual’s actions towards others consistently occur without regret or remorse. It is an opportune moment to take time to revisit and sincerely reflect upon any/ALL of the Online comments/complaints submitted by Disillusioned Customers throughout AAA Moving & Storage’s years of operation.

Please take note of the recurring similarities in the accusations brought forth by those complaining. Your Website (http://www.aaamovingstorage.com) indicates that your company has obtained levels of perfection in all major categories of the Moving Services Industry. I know because I fell hard for the Propaganda alongside many other unsuspecting AAA Moving & Storage Customers. Although I am not a Statistician, I might consider AAA Moving & Storage’s 100% perfection record a statistical anomaly.

We are all Human and at some point in your years of conducting business, AAA Moving & Storage must have experienced some unanticipated operational glitches. Your Website boasts twenty-four (24) Customer Testimonials, all Positive and zero (0) Negative. I find it peculiar that out of the hundreds, possibly thousands of people AAA Moving & Storage served over the years, only 24 give positive testimony to your Integrity/ Credibility.

Perhaps those twenty-four Customers were completely satisfied with your service, but others were not as fortunate. Conversely, on sites like Yelp AAA MOVING & STORAGE - 13 Photos - Movers - 11319 Indian Trl, Dallas, TX - Phone Number (yelp.com), Home Advisor AAA Moving and Storage - Read Reviews | Dallas, TX 75229 - HomeAdvisor, Yellow Pages AAA Moving & Storage 2913 Anode Ln, Dallas, TX 75220 - YP.com (yellowpages.com), Angi AAA Moving & Storage Reviews - Dallas, TX | Angi [Angie's List], etc., not all of the reviews are 100% positive, as it should be since no one is perfect.

I definitely will not be utilizing or recommending AAA Moving & Storage’s services to Family, Friends, or Colleagues, but since I am only one of nearly 8 Billion people occupying this planet, my opinion factors to zero extent in your day to day operation. However, I am hoping that in moving forward with your business you Re-Evaluate your company’s Code of Ethics when dealing with future AAA Customers.

As I mentioned earlier, with your next breath, you have an opportunity to become an Exceptional Role Model of Integrity for Women and Girls as a Successful Female Entrepreneur in a Male Dominated Arena. Please Do Not let this Golden Opportunity to further the Positive Imagery of Women in Business pass you by. Have a Great Day! M L
