I purchased a Groupon for Masterclean and immediately called them directly to make an appointment. Based on a busy work/family schedule – as well as out-of-town guests arriving next weekend – I booked for Thursday morning. This timing allowed me to adjust my work schedule, move all furniture off the carpets, be here for the cleaners, and have time for the carpets to dry, so I could move everything back in time for the weekend.
I spoke to the owner (James I think), and he advised that I should just call them direct instead of paying Groupon, which felt underhanded to me, but I kept my Groupon approach and booked the time – 9:30AM (plus or minus an hour).
At 10:45AM, I received a call from James saying that they were dealing with a particularly nasty carpet with stains and such… and would be another hour or more. I told him that I had an appointment from 12-2PM, and would not be home. He apologized profusely and said they could do sharply at 3PM.
I was back home by 2:30, and received a call from James at 3:30 saying they were at ANOTHER particularly nasty appointment in Monument, and that they would be 30-60 minutes more. At 4:45 I received a final call from James saying they were still in Monument, and that they needed to set a new time, suggesting first thing in the morning. I told him that my house was in complete disarray, my 4 teenagers were unable to do anything but sit in the kitchen, that we did not want to move everything off the beds and back onto the floor (only to repeat again in the morning), and that we would not have time for the carpets to dry and for all furniture to be replaced AGAIN… before our guests arrived. I suggested that regardless of the lateness, I needed them to complete the job that day. He then turned quite rude and said that he must not have been clear, and “that they were not able to complete the job today”. I asked why, and he said, “Because they can’t – that’s why”. I told him that was unacceptable and that I would be filing a complaint… to which he said he didn’t care.
I’ve gotten a credit from Groupon, as they are unable to give me a refund after 3 days. I also notified them of the merchant’s attempt to ignore the terms of use and have me cancel the transaction and/or use them direct for the same price in the future.
I think at the very least a sincere apology is warranted… and this complaint should be filed so others can avoid the same kind of catastrophe.
