A-1 Auto Salvage Reviews
A-1 auto salvage and used cars I went in to for a used motor, I purchase a used motor in June for 700 plus dollars the owner who is I think is called "Brown" said he could put in the motor which would take about a week so I paid another 500 for his labor he also said my motor mounts were broken I asked him to order them. Being a foster Mom of 3 young kids with one van. It didn't sound so long so I said okay. It took about two weeks which he said was due to short help I understood.
When it was done on a late Friday. I had to return Monday My motor was still running hot and it had a weird noise. So I returned again a-1 auto JC owner kept it a few more days. When it was returned back there was still noise I again returned for him to adjust something. This went on for the past few months early September the ticking was getting louder I stopped and Brown the owner said he was backed up he couldn't look at it. I came by again in the rain in the middle of September he said to bring it back another day.
About a day later September 22nd it was so loud I was afraid I tried driving to a-1 auto salvage my van died in the middle of traffic. I tried to safetly go to the side of the road. I called the a-1 shop thinking he would help me someone new answered he said brown was busy making a sale and said for me to get help somewhere else. I was shocked I told the guy I would always remember this (experience). I called JC auto Repair who towed me and took me to their shop. After it was checked I was told the screws or something on my torque converter had not been tighten correctly when the motor was put in and my torque converter and flywheel were damaged because of it.
I called around the cost would be about 1200.00 in parts and labor. The JC shop called the owner of a-1 because he put my motor in they thought he would repair it to save me the cost. But instead a-1 owner told JC auto repair mechanic that he was not responsible because I had motor mounts broken before that he said needed repairing (which I wanted repaired when he told me). A-1 said he would send over a flywheel and torque converter he continued for two weeks telling JC auto repair the parts were not in but coming.
I called Superior, Ponder and several other professional shops in Johnson City, they all agreed that broken or missing motor mounts wouldn't have made the bolts on my torque converter losen an the other proffessional shops wanted to know why he put in a motor without repairing the mounts if he felt it would cause damage. Some repair shop owners even said they felt sorry for me for using a-1. I thought fixing my van would be better than trying to buy a new car. a-1 says they were in business over 20 years I feel so bad that I did not think to read their reviews until after. When I did read them they didn't have any reviews!! 20 years no reviews?? This would have been a red flag.
Now I mention a-1 shop to as many people to see what others and those that may have used them. I have been been told they all seem to agree it was the worst decision I could have made to use this shop a few even wondered if I knew for sure did he even put another motor in. I now know it was one of the worst decisions, 1200 has now turned into 2400.
