They charged close to $3000 for me to attend a book signing at the American Association of School Librarians Convention in Phoenix. They're were supposed to be people from the company there to discuss my project but no one showed up. And my book was not even on display as they promised.

New scam on the way: Lookout book authors. Got a call from a guy saying my book was highly recommended by Literary Book Scout. No such organization but there are a bunch of freelance book scouts out there trying to drum up money by contacting authors most likely from Amazon to try and get the authors to pay them $450. to market their books. Did some more research and found the person called from Readers Magnet, http://www.readersmagnet.com/ PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH ANY AND ALL AUTHORS YOU KNOW AND CARE ABOUT--being a book author is no easy task and marketing your book once published, mostly self-published these days--is near impossible so these kinds of scammers prey on authors who usually have huge egos and desperately want their words read. In fact, please share this with anyone and everyone you know, since they just might know an author who needs to be made aware of this scam. One clue: all people I spoke with had a heavy foreign accent. Another clue they don't know English well as shown in their statement: "readersmagnet.com/world-wide-publicity/the-4ms-for-your-book/ … There are many things to remember in able for you to sell your book online." In able for you to sell your book online? In able? lol

As i have explained in the past to test your legitimacy, i requested to terminate my association with your organization as i honestly told you to extract any fees that you have encountered to date and promptly mail me the residual of the $650 you have ripped me off with. The proof of your scam is evident because you keep calling me asking to confirm my check which is a good bank cashiers check that my bank has informed me has been cashed out. And to date i have not received any residual money from readers magnet what-so-ever. What you have done is stolen $650 from me with nothing tangible in return and i certainly will add an additional complaint to the 'ripped off" web site...

..I am a member of the authors guild and i most certainly will alert then of your company's scam. In the event you mail me back my residual funds, then i will write them a rebuttal. Most authors are honest hard working people and your company should be ashamed of yourselves for taking advantage of them.

You mark my words there may be a sucker born every day but all scammers eventually rot in hell - a fate i am proud to say does not awite me. This email will be quietly sent to the 200 authors in my address book with a request to forward onward to all they know in their own address books and soon through magnification all across the globe, i sincerely hope your organization will get no more business and you will go broke.

Complaint #1 ---a lady named ms. Florex called me with glowing praise for my book, that she claimed was brought to her attention by a "literary book researcher and scout" and she wanted to help me promote my book for just 550.00 ... I could pay more and be in their book show ... I asked if she likes the cover or thought it should be modified and she responded: "well, what do you think?" ... I knew then she had never even seen and she was in fact, reading a script ... There was a lot of noise in the background - call center ... Total bs scam, i cannot believe they get away with this - some needs to stop them from ripping off people ... Of course, as authors, we all have egos and want to hear our works praised and that is exactly what they do ... They use our ego's to rip us off, so shame on them ... I am betting the callers only get a commission off the sale, so who is pocketing the big money ??? They need to be stopped ...

Complaint #2 ___ readers magnet solicited me by phone for $1,501 on the basis that a literary agent was interested in publishing my book. After half an hour on the phone, i determined that they wanted me to send them $531 dollars by credit card immediately, and then two more payments. They promised to have a cover designer and a marketing person contact me over the next month. They also promised to register me for a book fair in new york, claiming they had the connections. After looking at their website, and that of the book fair, i could make no affirmation that they had any such relationship with the book fair, or that the officials or talent agents at the book fair had any relationship with reader's magnet. Further, there was no proof offered by them that a publisher's agent had ever expressed any interest in my book. Frankly, rich mendez knew so little about my book, that i doubt he had anything other than the title on a list of self-published books. I am warning authors about this scam.

Complaint # 3 ----- author: authorfromtexas - United states) submitted: thursday, january 11, 2018 a certain kyle who is a senior consultant called me and said that my book is highly recommended by a literary agent, he said that if i register my book in new york rights fair, i will be traditionally published, and also because i am recommended by a literary scout he will give me a free publishing package, this got me excited but because i need to ask my wife first, i told him that i will call back tomorrow. When i checked their website, i realized that the amount he quoted me which is $1499 is the total cost if i get a book fair and a publishing package from them. Making this free publishing package not to be free at all. Never deal with this kind of company! scammers!

Complaint # 5 --- submitted: wednesday, december 20, 2017 this company called me last ocotber to be part of a trade show in frankfurt, i had them sent me a proposal since i am at work. They called me again 3 days after and i did go with this trade fair. I thought to myself $500 is not bad. I gave them a chance and it was worth it, got few calls from different people who mwas on the show, i even had my cousin went there who is now living in germany and saw my book on that trade fair. The were responsive and easy to get a hold with. This might be subjective since we all have different experiences from readers magnet. Personally, i had a bad experience wth my publisher thats why i gave this company from nw york and i was afraid that this was a scam but then again this company has proven me wrong. Yes the do have a lot of wonderful things to say and so on and so on but, they did what they promised my moneys worth for that fair and still working with them though. I have been scammed several times but i guess when they called me and i was able to communicate with one of the authors who worked with them, i decided to maybe do it with them. Though this company is legit we still have to be careful on calls we get, try to check the website and phone numbers if those were really their contact number. But, so far so good for me with readers magnet.

Roger urged me to pay the registration fee of $650 to get my book in their catalog. He claimed 200,000 people would attend the Book Fair in Frankfort Germany in October. Those attending include librarians, owners of bookstores, teachers, students, parents. I was reluctant to pay such a steep fee, so he qquicdkly re-calculated and said $550 would be acceptable. He claimed this Book Fair is the biggest display of books in the world, with people coming from every nation on earth. He estimated 200,000 would attend, and perhaps 1% of them would buy my book. That would be 2,000 books sold then and there. However, he only asked me to send him one book, so whoever wants to buy my book would need to contract me and buy directly from. The more we talked, the more skeptical I became. He spoke with an accent, as though he's not really an American citizen.
