Let me frist start by stating that my stay on one of her properties was 2 and a half years ago and I have been seething ever since. As I booked via VRBO.com, the review process is compliated and was unable to submit a review.
The owner of this company, Janna MacDowall was incredibly rude to me and my family while staying at one of her properties in January 2016. When booking via VRBO, we requested and were given confirmation from the owner that we would have 2 cribs in the condo as we have twin 2 year olds. Upon arrival, we had no such cribs which left us in a problematic situation with 2 tired kids having nowhere to sleep but a floor as the futon in the room was too high off the ground for toddlers to sleep on.
Once we finally got her on the phone, Janna's immediate reply was, "Which property? I have so many rental properties." "Did you remind me about the cribs?" I was flabbergasted. Janna immediately made me feel like a number and not a guest at her property. I explained how that response was unacceptable and demanded she rectify the situation as soon as possible. She responded by telling me I was threatening her and told me she'd take care of it in the morning. I again was completely caught off guard by the lack of empathy and reminded her that I am paying her for a service that she failed to accommodate. She told me the cribs were free of charge so my complaint was null. She then proceeded to tell me how she has many rental units, as almost trying to impress me.
I was left in a bind and had no choice but to oblige. My kids slept on the floor. Upon further room inspection, we found the headboard on the bed was broken and not connected to the bed exposing nails on the right side. The vertical blinds were missing several sections and the chord did not work properly. The listing said the room included beach umbrellas and chairs. The beach umbrella was broken as were one of the chairs. We purchased a new umbrella and chair and left it on the property as we were unable to travel home to NY with it.
Once we arrived home, we were immediately contacted by our travel insurance company and she had filed several claims against my family including the broken bed and blinds. We denied the claim and the insurance company took care of the rest.
Janna MacDowall exhibited an arrogance I have never experienced in all my days of traveling. She made me and my family feel burdensome and unimportant. She then attempted to have my family pay for amenities that were broken upon arrival. I read several of her responses to negative reviews on VRBO.com and noticed most of her replies are accusatory of the guests and not apologetic for inconveniences.
