Sometime early this year, my son was in a correctional center. I went online and setup a service (US Inmate Calls LLC) so my son could call me. I used my debit card to pay. He was transferred to another faciility. My son wrote and gave me information on the service linked(not US Inmate Calls LLC) to the correctional center he was transferred to. So, I set up a different service which I pay as I go (when I get low on minutes, they notify me and I add more money to purchase minutes).
I was looking at my May bank statement;low & behold there is the charge of 49.33 for US Inmate Calls LLC. I was not able to contact them. When I call the phone number 214-643-6056, I get a recording stating that phone number is not assigned to anyone. Number one, I wasn't aware this was a recurring charge when I initially signed up online.
I went to the bank and paid 36.00 to try and stop payment and the bank initiated an investigation. The bank sent me some papers to complete and return so they could investigate/dispute. Those papers have a short timeframe for turn around and my job is 95% travel. I was not able to get the papers turned around timely.
I checked bank statement for June...no 49.33 charge. I thought the bank 's stop payment they processed took care of it but on July 9th, there it is again, $49.33 on my bank statement. I went to the bank. Was told they would investigate why it showed up again. Again, I get the papers in the mail for the bank's investigation and dispute. Again, I am traveling and don't make the timeframe for turnaround.
I called the bank today and was told they can't stop payment on a debit card transaction. They refunded my 36.00 I had paid in May to stop the payment. I ended up having to cancel my debit card, get a new one with a new number in an attempt to stop US Inmate Calls LLC. I dont know if that will work yet; have to wait until I receive my Aug. statement. If I'm charged again, I will have to close the checking account and open a new one. However, I am out the 49.33/mo they have continued to rip off from me.
I hope there is someone out there who can help with this and I hope not one other person gets ripped off by these piranha!!!!!!
