I was one of the Founding Memebers of Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette, CO, back in 1997 when we first started. We all had a vision of buildiing a Community Church that welcomed everyone no matter what stage of life you were in. But over the years, especially over the past four--six years that has changed. I am 62, Wounded USAF Veteran, with no family out here and have been without a vehicle for 14-months and when I ask for some help from My own Home Church They would lift a finger to help me to with my truck or even to get a ride to and from church.
I was told that "they don't have anyone that can help me, maybe you can get someone from the VA to help you." When Contacted the Volunteer Group, for help, someone emailed me and told me "that when I could come up with a way and the money to for them to help me then they might be able to help." Not One so called Man In the Church was even willing to come by my house and see me or even call me to see how I was doing. I am not the only Senior or Veterans taht has been Ignored or Pushed aside. This is a Church That Claims to be such an Open and Loving Church, with a Senior Lead Pastor that has {With his Negative and Abbusive Attitude} run more off from Flatirons than I care to mention.
They even force him to take a 6-Month Sebatical rather than replace him, with someone who actually cared about what Flatirons Stood for and what Our Vision is as a Church Family. They allowed him to return, and his Attitude is still the same. Even through this Virus Crisis, the Chrurch has shown no interest in how Those of us who are 60 and over are doing or able to get around. I am almost Ashamed to tell people when they ask what church I belong to.
