I used to own my business and sold a lot home decor merchandise. Being the economy started suffering it forced me to go out of business leaving me with lots of brand new merchandise which are stored. Therefore, I had heard about the Renmarks being designers but with the economy, they were forced to open a consignment shop to help supplement their design business. It made perfect sense to me and the person who recommended them was (I considered a reputable person) so I took about $350 (wholesale) worth of merchandise in to be sold. Well after a couple of days I was told by Mr. Renmark that some of the merchandise I brought in was so great that they had decided to display it in one of their front windows.
Two weeks later he told me a lot of the merchandise had sold so I assumed I would be getting a check at the end of their payment cycle. Time passed and no check, more time passed and no check. So I finally asked Mr. Renmark if any more of my merchandise had sold? He said yes everything had been a big hit. Well, I didn't want to seem pushy because knowing they might be having financial problems resulting to a consignment shop for business I didn't say anything once more. Well more time passed and by this period it had been three months, so I paid the store a visit on a day I knew he wouldn't be there. And while visiting, I searched the store for some of my merchandise while there I only found one set of mugs and one other item (I gave to sale). They had taken a station wagon full of merchandise to sell. While there I picked up the cups and the other piece of merchandise and asked if they had any more of these items and the sales associate said you should have been here a couple of months ago we had lots of that stuff, and it's all sold.
So the end of the story/complaint/report is I have only gotten $23 of my money for all the merchandise sold and don't expect ever to get any more money in the future. I am just relieved I didn't take any of my high-end merchandise into their store because I would have been furious. Being this happened to me, I have no clue how to prove they have done this, and so I assume I have just to chuck it up to lessons learned. So if you're considering a consignment shop in Richmond, VA, I wouldn't take my merchandise to them unless you get detailed writing about every little piece of merchandise you've taken in and the dates, markdowns expected, etc.
