I was charged $9.95 which I approved but when I received my bank statement I was charged $29.95 of which I did not authorize. No where in the website did it say anything about additional charges. This is a major rip-off and should be illegal.

This is the worst company I’ve ever dealt with! They lie to you and tell you they have reports they don’t! They refuse any kind of refund! I went on their site for very specific information that they “claimed” was included if I only put in my credit card information and paid $9.95! The only thing on this report were addresses and phone numbers, which are beyond basic information I could have obtained for $0!! Please be careful of this fraudulent company! They’re awful, awful, awful! I’m also submitting a claim in the FTC to have it investigated.

If you want just one phone number the website tries to sign you up for a monthly plan. If you opt out and choose to use it for 3 days only they say it's 95 cents. When you go to cancel online, they say it's $2.95 to cancel. Instead of just saying: "one number costs you $3.90 for a one time fee. I called them and was told there was nothing they could do about reversing the $2.95 unless I signed up for a monthly pland at $14.95 (which I sure don't need).

They use the "old bait-and-switch" instead of being honest up front.

I purchased a month to month subscription plan for this background check service for use in our company's hiring routine. After using it for 1 month, I called and cancelled it. Peoplefinders.com continued to bill us for 2 whole years! Instead of paying $20 for one month, we've paid almost $500! I didn't notice it because our accounting department thought I was still using it. I thought it was cancelled and we were not being billed anymore. I am not in accounting and do not review the bills. When the accounting department asked me about it I was shocked it was still being billed.

I called Peoplefinders and asked them about it. They told me I never cancelled it. I refuted and told them this must be a mistake. Kristin, their supervisor told me I was wrong and If I had cancelled it, I would have a cancellation confirmation number. This I did not have. I said to cancel everything and they did and were "kind" enough to give me $60 back for my trouble. I told Kristin this is a scam and she should be ashamed to work at such a company that illegally charges former customers that try to cancel

I was now angry and waiting for my cancellation confirmation via email. 15 minutes later, no confirmation email. I called back and asked where was this cancellation email. I was told Peoplefinders.com does not send out a cancellation confirmation email unless requested. Well this furthered my hypothesis that I did cancel it and since I did not request a cancellation confirmation email, I could not have the cancellation confirmation number I was just asked for. I called back and asked to talk to another supervisor. Jennifer Garcia, the Customer Care Manager in charge of the department was very helpful and was able to find notes in my account that proved I had called in 1 month after opening the account to CANCEL it! This is back in June of 2015! Today is March 15th 2017!

Jennifer Garcia was kind enough to refund me 1 year of false, illegal billing but now she has to go to the owner of PeopleFinders.com to see what can be done about the 1st year of illegal billing. She informed me that due to the credit card laws/ agreement I only have 1 year to dispute the charges and it might be hard to get the 1st year of illegal billing back. She told me this is unprecedented and the worst case she has ever seen. I am skeptical of that. I need the BBB to stand with me and against PeopleFinders.com on this unjust, illegal business practice to warn other customers and help our company recover our money.

Thank you!

This company charged me 48 cents for the first telephone inquiry, 47 cents for the second inquiry and charged me $2.95 to just to cancel the membership. 2 days later they charged my bank account $24.99 with no authorization by myself and at that time I saw all the rip off reports and google reports about this company that were all derogatory. Wish I had looked that up first.

I purchased a reverse phone lookup on people finders today. The webpage gave me an option to order a phone number reverse lookup for .95 cents. I went to the payment page and it said total .95 cents. I was then billed an additional $3.00 on my charge card. I called the customer service number and they said that I ordered the subscription for $3.95 which I absolutely did not. The woman Jennifer Gacia # 36127 kept insisting that I ordered the subscription for $3.95. I told her I in fact did not, but only ordered the .95 cent order for one phone number. She proceeded to tell me that I was incorrect, but yet showed no proof that I in fact ordered the $3.95 subsciption. This is deception and fraud. I think this company should be put out of business for their unethical practices.

Stay away from this company.

Attempted a reverse number lookup. Things look rosy and they have the results. Go to sign up, perform the same search (Ihave screenshots to prove it) and no results.

Clearly a scam to get me into a monthly recurring billing. Contacted them they said they cancelled by charge. We will see.

I'm disabled from a traumatic brain injury, which affects my ability to scan and read, especially when information is confusing and contradictory. It's most difficult when trying to navigate websites. When I started receiving harassing phone calls and text messages, I was frightened and wanted to find out where they were coming from. I searched the number online and up popped PeopleFinders with a one time fee for $4.95. I paid the $4.95. My search yielded conflicting information with multiple names and addresses. It was absolutely useless! It's like they just spun the wheel and spit out random info. When I saw my bank statement yesterday with the $24.95 "recurring" charge, I was appalled! When I went to the PeopleFinder website, I had great difficulty trying to find what should, by ADA compliance guidelines, be easily accessible! When I called and tried to speak with a "customer service" agent about my ADA needs, the difficulty I had navigating their website and my difficulty seeing the small writing that stated that the fee would change to $24.95 in 3 days if I didn't cancel. I tried to explain myself and the agent told hung up on me because she didn't like what I was trying to tell her. I next called, asked for a supervisor, told them I was recording the call, explained my disability and my ADA needs. They wouldn't even let me talk. I was overtalked and met with "it's your responsibility....", "This is the internet and YOU should be aware..." The call went on with no satisfaction and absolutely no compromise! I advised them I would be filing this complaint on this website, the BBB, Consumer Affairs and the Department of Justice for violation of ADA website compliance. The response was, "You do what you have to. Have a nice day!".

This is a fradulent company. They charge your credit card and give you inaccurate and old information. When you cancel your subscription, they charge you anyway. You are not able to talk with a manager or supervisor. They are never in, according to the person who answers the phones. If you've been charged unjusticely, follow this advice. Call your credit card and dispute the charges. They will issue credit and charge the company, People Finders a Chargeback. An easy phone call. If all fraudulant actions were treated this way, People Finders will be out of business within months because all of their users are disapointed with the results. Look at the Better Business Bureau results, look at any of their reviews. This company makes money off of people who don't know what to do after they've been charged and not given the information requested. Hope this helps you.

On September 25, 2015 I went online to try and friend my childhood best friend. I ended up using 3 different search companies to try and find a current address, phone #, etc. Each of the companies had different terms, but all offered a trial period where you could search for someone and cancel by a certain time.

None of the 3 reporting agencies were able to find any valid information on my friend. I cancelled with Intelius and was charged $3.95 for the search. I cancelled with Spokeo and was charged $.95 and they reversed the monthly $22.95 charge that had been charged to my American Express card.

When I called PeopleFinders to ask why they had charged me two different fees even though I had email confirmation of my cancellation, they told me that one charge $19.95 was for my report and that $2.95 was for the 3 day trial. I went to their website to prove that I have read the agreement and told them that I was entitled to a refund based on this:

Free or Introductory Promotional Offers: If you have joined under a special introductory trial offer (for example, a discounted or free initial trial) (“Trial”), you hereby acknowledge that unless you cancel before the expiration of your Trial the applicable fee for the subscription term selected will be posted to your Payment Method on the day after the trial period is completed. In order to receive any refund for a charge made after you have cancelled you must provide proof of cancellation. Such proof will be limited to the automated confirmation email from PeopleFinders showing the date and time of said cancellation.

They acknowledged my email that said I had indeed cancelled within the time frame but said that they would refund nothing.

They told me that I was getting a "special" rate and all I can see is a "special" Ripoff!

I WANT all my money you took from me. You had an opt out box on your website and I checked the box.

Site lists 2 options for use. The first is a one time charge of .95. The second is a monthly use option for $24.95 per month. What is not clearly stated is that if you sign up for the one time use option, if you do not cancel the subscription within 3 days, you are automatically signed up for the monthly option, and charged 24.95.

In my case, the information that I recieved was either wrong or incorrect, and could not be used. When I realized that I had been charged 24.95, I called the customer service number to speak to a representative, I was simply told that I had agreed to the terms of service, and that it was a non-refundable 24.95 fee. When I told her I would like to speak to a supervisor, the representative (without another word) simply transferred me to a voicemail system, which asked me to leave my appropriate information. I did so, and the next day recieved what is obviously a form email response stating that I had agreed to the service and the charge was non-refundable, but that my account had been cancelled, and I was welcome to use the service until the next billing cycle.

Not only are these unethical business practices meant to trick subscribers into unwanted memberships and fees, the customer service is completely unprofessional and rude; my request to speak to a supervisor was met with a form email response, clearly they have no intention of actually servicing anyone.

When I received my bank statement I noticed I had 3 charges from CFK Peoplefinders for .48 on the 12th of August, .47 on the 13th of August, and $24.95 on the 17th of August. I did do a search on the site but cancelled the report and did not open the report....... no where on the site does it say that you will be charged a monthly fee or a subscription fee for services unless you call withih 3 business days. I called when I received my bank statement and was told since I did not called within the 3 days I was automatic charged a $24.95 fee. I was told it was a non refundable fee and I told her I did not see any thing on the web site and she was very nasty and argued wth me. This site is a Ripoff and I'm sure that it is happening to everyone it claims to be a free search which they trick you into putting in your card than charge your card with out your permission. Something needs to be done with these sites because gullible people like me trust them and then get cheated out of their hard earned money!
