Oakwood Homes Reviews
I purchased my home in the fall of 2001. it is now 2018 and my roof is falling apart. Substandard roofing materials were used to build my home. I have had to replaced half of my back roof, which actually came thru to inside the house.
I have tried to speak with Oakwood home in Knoxville, TN and they basically say that the company was bought out and that the Oakwood homes there could not help me. There has to be a way to get them to cover this.
I lost my homeowners insurance due to the fact that the roof is falling apart and not covered by them.
Follow up to review from 2016.
In January of 2016, we closed on our home in the Potomac Farms neighborhood. Since the moment we decided to buy an Oakwood homes we have had nothing but headaches. Throughout the entire build process there were delays. After moving in, the warranty issues started popping up. Every time we submitted a warranty request there was about a 2 month delay on replies from Cornelius Johnson (their customer care representative). After he would finally get back to us, there was always an excuse by Oakwood on why things weren’t covered under the warranty.
On our 1 year mark at the house we did the 1 year walk thru with Cornelius and pointed out that our back patio cement had major cracks and this needed to be replaced. He mentioned to us that this was a big issue Oakwood had in this neighborhood because many of the cements they had laid were cracking and that at the beginning of summer someone would contact us to replace it. We received word regarding this matter in April from JJ Highland (Oakwood’s customer care liaison designated to this issue) that they were going to start getting estimates and that as soon as they had a work ordered he would let us know.
On June 1st we received an email letting us know work around the neighborhoods would begin June 7th, 2017 thru June 9th 2017. After work hadn’t started on our patio, we contacted Oakwood’s rep on June 26th 2017 to see if he had any information on when work would start and JJ replied 2 weeks later on July 11th just attaching a work order that wasn’t even for our home. Finally on July 13th 2017, after 3 months from the original contact, we saw some action when someone came to our home and removed the bottom of our column to clear the cement and put a wood post holding the ceiling up. This worker then told us that work would begin the next day. After the weekend passes and no work was done we called JJ and Cornelius and no one replied so we emailed them.
Again no reply so we preceded to call again a few days later but once again no reply. Finally on July 19th 2017 Cornelius emailed me back letting me know JJ was on vacation for the rest of the week and would be back the week of July 24th 2017. I proceeded to wait for a call from either of the Oakwood representatives until Wednesday night but nothing so I called both of them and emailed both of them as well as Oakwood’s warranty department at [email protected] but still no reply. I called once again on Thursday and yet no reply. Called again today Friday July 28th 2017 but still nothing. It is amazing that we have to go thru all this headache and ordeals just to get a patio replaced because of their shoddy workmanship when they did it the first time around.
I hope this review helps any future customers’ considering purchasing from Oakwood homes. I would like to say it’s not work the hassle to buy from them. Please consider going with other builders that do stand behind their work and don’t have their customers jumping through hoops just to get a date on when they plan on replacing something that was their mistake to begin with.

I can not even begin to say all that has gone wrong since the purchase. Missed closing date twice because they didnt do what they were supposed to. When the house finally move in ready it looked like our childs third grade class did the dry wall. Seams were visible all over the house. Crown molding with gaps. Shower door was broken. After some serious hassle finally got them to start fixing things. Took forever to schedule tech to fix things. Seams started becoming more and more noticible in ceiling. I thought I was going crazy because everytime I looked up I saw another seam. Had to arguse and fight to get them to come fix it.
Finally after contractors coming without materials once then coming thinking it was going to be waiting for them another time they finally came and materials were available. Sanded whole ceiling and remudded it. That night huge droop shows up. Call the guys back. They attempt to cut the drooping part out and a whole 5 gallon bucket full of large staples almost kills the guy as it falls through the ceiling on top of him. I guess I wasnt crazy. amny other things needed repair sometimes twice. Cracks showed up, cabinets needed adjusting. Breakers started tripping. Finally when we thought things were all worked out, we were only waiting for a shower door part that took a year to come, the bathroom started to mold. That is the issue we are dealing with now. Ill let you know how it turns out
My husband and i bought a manufactered home from them in 2011. We also purchased a extra five year protection plan warranty. They have not held up there end . Our home is falling apart around us and we have only lived here for five years, it is sad! I will never recommend anyone ti buy a home from theses people.
I purchased a double wide mobile home froth this company in 2009. I have sence complained about my blackened copper wires in my walls, the smell of rotten eggs in my master bathroom, all of my cabinets started peeling in three months after moving in. My appliances to include my oven elements and game consoles have blew out prematurely. I have been told by Management at Oakwood homes Tappahannock that they would deface my cabinets.
