Double Exposure Consignment Boutique Reviews

  • Oct 24, 2017

I bought a coat that had an original Vince tag attached indicating it was a new coat in a size M. I tried it on in the store in the presence of employees Kim & Katie and remarked that it looked big. Kim said to check the actual sewn in label/size and it was actually a size S. Giving benefit of the doubt, I figured it must have been incorrectly size tagged at Vince.

When I took the coat out 5 weeks later (when it was finally cool out), something didn't feel right and was nagging me. When I googled the style number on the so-called original tag, it came back to a Vince SHIRT. The owner consigned the coat, but put another Vince tag on it, so that Double Exposure would think it was new and price it higher, which they did. Their website claims items are priced at 30-50% off retail, yet it was priced at $448 for a $750 coat. I bought it under the assumption that it was NEW.

When confronted with the facts, Sandy at first admitted liability and said she'd see what she could do. After several days had passed, Sandy (on behalf of DE) then refused to take any responsibility or to offer any type of resolution.

Had I known the true condition of said coat (preowned, not new with tags), I would have bought a used one for $240 on ebay instead of paying $476. This item's condition was misrepresented by the consignor, yet they would rather lose my business (as both consignor and frequent shopper) then to correct a malicious action taken by another consignor. They accepted it for consignment and sold it, therefore they are liable. I have also purchased counterfeit Tory Burch's (ate the loss when discovered 6 months later) and have seen counterfeit Gucci belts at this location.

Also, DE is not a 501c3, but gives out tax slips for items they claim to donate, only to allegedly turn around and "donate" the merchandise to other stores in Branford and Ridgefield (both owned by DE's owner) or to therealreal online. These alleged donated items are then sold at full profit to the store. This information was given to me by 2 different DE employees during friendly conversations over the last few years, so consignors beware.
